Haha I.got very lucky with that pig. It was my first. I basically bought it from the guy sight unseen because I thought I couldn't afford a 40. I paid the guy $4k for a completely rust free pig!!!! It was a '71 so no power steering, no a/c, 3 on tree, etc but without knowing it at the time I couldn't have bought a better truck for what turned into a ridiculous project lol

I loved the colors, also got very lucky. The PO had done kind of a paintbrush white paint job on it, who knows maybe it was the thick paint that staved off the rust? lol. But as we sanded down the whole truck the original painted started to show through and it was clear to me I wanted it to be the original Cygnus White and Green. That was also my first painting experience because I didn't want to wait a year for the shop next to Ironpig to have an opening so my ex wife and I painted it in Lance's shop on an Easter. lol.

Kick himself in the ass. How about me as I remember when he was selling and I told my wife we should buy it. It was not the right time so we passed. We had our first child on the way, just purchased a house, and so the story goes. I remember telling her that we would regret not purchasing it as it was a gem and would never see another pig/truck like it again.

Sorry to slighly derail your thread for a second Delancy, but Scottryana do you happen to know the paint code of your green off hand? Its pretty much the same color as my pig, but my pig has mostly been spray painted. If its a factory color i would LOVE to have the paint code.

many thanks for the color code. i want mine to be that color. back to more important matters, though. ... there are very few "original" pig left. what we have had to do in carving up others to nobly extend the life of some is necessary, and could possibly go undetected to the uninitiated. a better question maybe, "what makes a pig a pig?" what is the heart and soul of this beast? the guys that bob and chop do not have pigs, in my opinion. they have something unnatural in the pig world. i may think it is debatable if the drivetrain swap guys have a pig. Although it may be an improvement over the stock performance and comfort, it does remove a significant characteristic of the OEM pig, in my very humble and I am certain to soon be chastised for having opinion. Is a 72 pinto still a pinto when it sports a 460 under the hood?

'76 Harness (??)

1. Since the 3FE was fuel injected, how can idle up be accomplished with vacuum? Is that irrelevant?

2. Modern fittings and hoses sounds fine, but what needs to be done to the evaporator core? What about fittings exiting firewall?

Brett pressure tested and, pretty sure, he said the evaporator core was fine to use, but not sure if that means that hoses can be made to work with the existing fittings, or if it all needs replaced.

3. What does the amplifier do? It has an adjustable rheostat, but doesn't appear to be accessible, once the evaporator is in place.

4. Surely the pro's could figure out, but the '76 harness appears relatively simple....perusals of the 3FE are not.

What controls the compressor, or better yet, is it possible to adapt the harness to the 3FE compressor?

5. Mundane, but on my mind....

Attempting to get everything installed and functioning 100%, then, once returned, pulling it all apart again and dealing with body, meaning this evaporator and grille will remove, along with the rest of the interior tidbits.

Wouldn't it make better sense to paint all, simultaneously, at the time they're pulled for body work?

6. Rear heater.

I have never laid eyes on a 62 rear heater, but they appear flat, also appear the inlets penetrate the floorboard, like the 80.

In an effort to minimize in cab heat, has already considered running the hoses externally....which may be possible with the 60 series 2F lines, but in an effort to free up space for the front seats, thinking the short, compact 62 rear heater may work.

Anyone know if they're as compact as they appear on an iPhone screen? (Haha)

Wouldn't it be feasible to control with the existing switch/harness? Just eliminate one wire?

Good images here. I would be tempted to get everything fitted before paint. Less likely to screw up paint... This would include wiring that would probably need to be added btwn controls and compressor...

Could pull the dizzy from the '71, also. It was desmogged by a PO and appears to have been done correctly, so assuming advanced and useable.



Are you expressing interest in purchasing?

I'm as worried about that surgery as I am picking a seat, at this point, since there's so much to be done before then.

I have studied the rear cut closely and believe I have a grasp on how it needs to section in, so intend in welding braces inside the frame and beginning the process of removing the outer skin, along with getting the doors ready, too.

I can't lie and say the merits haven't been debated, mostly due to a self imposed timeline that there's no chance I'll ever meet, but unless someone wanted the set up for what I've invested, it'll remain where it is until the time comes that a decision is forced.

I do have grandiose ideas about a third Pig, that they could incorporate into if they don't go into the '76.

I fear that if you wait for a 3rd Pig for the ambi door project that the project may never get done...

Don't know. Robbie hasn't volunteered much recently and I haven't pestered.

The last conversation we had about the project was the missing brake soft lines, Timken's sent instead of Koyo's, and if the plan was still for him to call Ige and see of she wanted the take off parts.

I should've started a list of potential homes for parts. I know I discussed the headers with someone. If you know who you are, please chime in.

Latest

Gears, Birfs, inner axles are all in great shape. Housings to be stripped, tomorrow, in preparation for epoxy.

Crank only needed polishing, so rod and mains will be ordered accordingly.

Coating on the leafs isn't consistent with the balance, so they'll be epoxied, to match.

Which brought up the following:

Alcan uses Energy Suspension bushings which are red. Not crazy about, but does that warrant replacing and if so, with what?

Started thinking about rear sway bar bushings, as far as what to replace with, which jogged my memory that they need to extend. I don't have links on the donor, not wanting to pull off the '72, so don't have access to any to cut and sleeve.

Any clues on where +2" links and new bushings can be sourced?

Trying to avoid time spent chasing a welder and bushings.

Anyone have definitive part numbers for what brake soft lines would work for 2" lift?

Kurt was my first call. Thought they may have extended links as part of the only know 55 lift kit, but they echoed what I already knew on cutting and sleeving with a trip to local parts store for bushings.

Problem is, I don't have a pair to cut and sleeve, nor to size bushings and attempting to minimize Robbie's time on the mundane.

Thanks for part numbers on brake lines. Should be able to determine the Toyota equivalent from.
