Does anyone else have photos of what they use to sleep on top of one of these? I am curious what it would cost to ship to New Orleans area. Also if you don't add one of the side "flaps" will Phils Puma mount still fit?
Did you catch the pic earlier in this thread with my sleeping setup? It works out great. My fridge always stays in place. So I only use it for solo camping. I am sure a queen air mattress would blow up and form fit right on top of the unit/seats.
If Phil's mount won't fit(by looking it prob won't as the box is right against the wheel well) I can check to see if the puma unit fits if you get me the dimensions.
Scrowley...very nice work. I commend you for taking the high road with a lot of the "overpriced" comments. I can also do the woodworking myself, but I'm more from the camp wanting to thank you for being willing to share a really nice design. I, for one, was planning to use HD drawer slides. But your, and others, comments have me rethinking this. If someone thinks it's too much money, then no one is forcing them to buy one. I know you have quite a few hours into these. Good luck with sales!
BTW...do the drawers slide easy due to the sealant, or did the bare wood slide easy too? I think I may go this route. Also, if you don't mind sharing, I would love to know what your using to attach carpet? Thx.
Thanks a lot! They sure do take some time to build. There are a lot of processes to the build. I use a wide variety of tools to get the job done efficiently.
The drawers slide great. I personally like the friction the "no slide" causes. With a heavy load on hills/etc. they don't open at high speed... There is absolutely no rattle. After heavy loads, offroad driving, and banging around the actual ball bearing drawer slides will end up rattling. AND they are VERY EPENSIVE. The clear finish I apply is to seal the wood so it doesn't/minimum shrink and expand in weather change. It does help a lot with the sliding function also.
The carpet is applied with high tack fabric spray glue and staples. Learned the upholstery game back in my lowrider/show truck days.
