Really class job. Have you thought about a price for a unit that is not assembled to make it easier to ship?

Thanks. I have thought of it. Only thing is that it would not be carpeted. But I could sell it in pieces. I could pre drill all the holes. Assembler has to use glue. I have a thing about glue. I was always tought nails are to hold the wood until the glue drys. Glue is what gives it strength. Although there are no nails in these units. Everything is pre drilled/counter sunk and screwed

I think this is a great drawer set at a decent price, do you have any plans to incorporate a sleeper system?

Thank you. Ha, It's already is a sleeper system. I sleep in my truck every event. There is an approx. 2.5" incline where the seat folds up but camping wise it is great. I have a single coleman blow up and its very confy. If someone was to want is perfectly flat I would have to add 2.5" in height to full main box then build a "filler" panel to span the gap. When building originally I didn't want to hall around the pieces that would be needed to do this and it was just going to be to tall IMO. I will tailor up any size and any config. that someone may want though. Just to note I am 6' tall. I am planning a build for a 03-08 4runner next and that will need a sleeper system because of how the rear seats fold. I'll go grab a pic with the mattress installed in my solo camping config.

I realized your construction technique, after reading your other build thread. I prefer your type of construction over roller glides, so they don't "take off" on the user, when parked on a hill. Simple and brilliant. Do you use birch ply?

Thank you sir. I think drawer slides are over rated for this application. I use 3/4" AC ply. Same strength as birch but it isn't a nice finish quality on both sides for paint or stain. The "C" side of the sheet has quite a few nots and a ruffer finish. When building the box's I always make the "C" side covered with carpet/not seen. I do however use 3/4" birch ply for all my paint grade built ins I do in customers homes.

Couple pics of how the single blow up mattress fits. Works great sleeping solo. Pic shows the slight angle. I usually just shove an extra pillow or other filler under mattress to fill the slight "gap" I would image a twin or queen would fit double wide.

I installed the new unit in customers 80 today. Year was 1991. Really nice guy from NYC. He plans to use it for the beach with his family. It fit nice and snug.

Really, really, NICE FIT.

So y'all like the drawer system that scrowley built?.. I can honestly say that it looks much better in person and works great..
True to what scrowley mentions on the this and other treads, it's very stout and extremely we'll built....I wanted to see the system in person and talk about what I wanted to incorporate in the system so I drove to his shop ( 97 miles ) before I commit to buy... I am so grateful that he thought of everything to make my drawers work and look good... It's actually came out better than I expected.... If you look at the system in person you'll think it was built by Toyota just for the 80.. I can't be more happier with the job scrowley has done and it's probably the best money I spent on my 80 that I have no second thoughts about..... Hell ! Even the wife was happy with this drawer system...thanks scrowley ....talk to you soon about the drawers for the 40......again much thanks!!!

Scrowley, your attention to detail, fit, and finish is excellent. Could you not find a source for carpet that matched the interior of the 80? I have considered building a set a of drawers for my 80 but I need the carpet to match the color and texture of the original carpet (gray).

Like others have said, this really is quality work but the price, not including shipping, is a bit high.
I designed and built this myself for less than $500.

While responding to this thread, I had an epiphany. I do not want a full set of drawers. I need the space for camping equipment storage bins and two dogs. But, I also need pockets in the back for tools. Has anyone built a set of boxes that go up and over the wheel wells, but leave the middle empty? I would like to build https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/more-cargo-room.167864/ for the center section.

The built in looks great. how many hrs. Did it take? Its not really about the price of materials it's about labor. I'm sure you already know this if your in the trades.

I'm in IT but would rather be swinging a hammer or shoveling a ditch any day. My built-in took a year of design in CAD and 2 months to complete. And yes, I know exactly what you mean by it's about labor. I would never build something like this for someone else unless they had deep pockets.

But... if you consider the alternative. With a few templates to reduce labor and a buddy helping, you could sell quite a few of these.

^^^^^ 2 months! And your saying my box's are too much...lol. I did quick pricing on your built in. That build including materials, build, finish, and install would be approx. $9k- $11k. 2.5 wks to complete. And yet you spent $500 materials.

I do have template for my unit. i did not price these units to make a killing. I actually make more $ on customers remodel projects. But I sure like building something for Toyota lovers much better. I hope to keep building them for ppl. So keep the orders coming.

Oh, and I have pics of carpet samples I haven't uploaded yet.

hey Scott I might be interested in a unit with a small change.

What I would like to do is tumble the rear seats forward and then slide out a frame from the unit that would allow me to place carpeted planks on, to have a completely flat surface. The planks would be stacked behind the rear seats where that forward compartment is.

Maybe I could come by Tuesday to talk about it.

x 2 on stackable sleeping platform. I've been trying to figure that out, keeping 2nd row seats, but in order to have both the drawers need to be higher, maybe too high.

I'd like to check some of your drawers out does anyone have them and live closer to NYC?

Sounds good Landtank. Give me a call and we can line it up.

I am 1hr 40 min from NYC. If you have serious interest you can cruise up. Also the last set was sold to a guy in NYC. He posted above. Maybe you guys are neighbors who know's.

Hamishpotter ..... I have scrowley's storage unit in my 80 and it's the coolest thing in the world... If you like to see them in person, I M me and I be happy to show ya....... Once you see it in person, you defiantly want one for yourself....

Here are the samples for the carpet. Also some other thinner fabric samples. The fabric samples would require a 1/4" foam padding under the fabric for cushion since its much thinner.

**** EDIT on first page:

Locking Drawer pulls now included in final price of $1350

You can level the back of the 2nd row seat easily with something like I use.

Interesting - and clever. What is the height of your drawer / storage system then? That looks pretty level!

The platform is 12" tall, and with the little block under the 2nd row seat latch the folded seat is level. I use a Therm a Rest pad on top of the seat/deck and cannot feel the transition or small gap between them.

Scrowley- Very nice platforms/drawers. Though mine is functional it is a far cry from the fit and finish you have. I can confirm that you really don't need rollers for these drawers.
