I wonder which would be cheaper, buying a Cummins and the additional cost of conversion or wait till someone wrecks the new Colorado ZR2
with the diesel in it that puts out 369 lb\ft of torque @180 hp.

Thanks for the responses. If they were offering an OM647 crate engine, then I would probably already be writing a check to somebody. The Mercedes has what the R2.8 doesn't, a few billion miles of proven performance. The R2.8 may be the best thing since sliced bread, its just so new here that its hard to know what to expect.

I read that these have been used in Chinese pickup trucks for a few years, but I don't know anybody with a Chinese pickup truck, so that's not a whole lot of comfort.

The 4bt has potential, but I'm not willing to make the sacrifices I hear about in a daily driver. No spring over for me, and I'm not willing to spend four years trying to dial it in. I am jealous of my time, and get real grumpy when I have to stop enjoying my drive to fix something. I can turn a wrench with the best of them, but I would much rather be looking out the windshield than under the hood.

I want it. I have even convinced my wife that it's a good idea. But I'm just not quite ready to commit yet.

Note - After convincing my wife, I will have to say I love the results no matter what. So if you read something positive from me a year from now, take it with a grain of salt.

good thinking, they put this motor into '16+ Colorado's/Canyons - but they are rare.

yes it is, 2.8 baby duramax. I see the current offer is 9k... so at that price worth going right with the offering from Cummins.

Perhaps, but with the salvage truck you get a transmission etc. etc.

Pretty amazing that Colorado's repair estimate is North 0f $20k!

Looks like fenders, hood and bumper? No airbag deployment, etc.

Thanks, it's going to be a long process. I need to learn how to tig weld aluminum and stainless. I'm sure that'll take a month's worth of practice but it'll give me something to do and that's one of the reasons I went this route.

@torfab any updates on your end?

I am starting the process of manufacturing our kits. Pricing is still up in the air, but I will put it together once we are going.

Bad. Ass.

No joy on the engine delivery yesterday. Don't know what's going on with Fedex. It took 3 days to get from Memphis to here and today is the fourth day it's been in town. It originally was scheduled to be delivered 10/23, then last night it changed to pending. I hope it gets delivered today.
