I wonder which would be cheaper, buying a Cummins and the additional cost of conversion or wait till someone wrecks the new Colorado ZR2
with the diesel in it that puts out 369 lb\ft of torque @180 hp.
Thanks for the responses. If they were offering an OM647 crate engine, then I would probably already be writing a check to somebody. The Mercedes has what the R2.8 doesn't, a few billion miles of proven performance. The R2.8 may be the best thing since sliced bread, its just so new here that its hard to know what to expect.
I read that these have been used in Chinese pickup trucks for a few years, but I don't know anybody with a Chinese pickup truck, so that's not a whole lot of comfort.
The 4bt has potential, but I'm not willing to make the sacrifices I hear about in a daily driver. No spring over for me, and I'm not willing to spend four years trying to dial it in. I am jealous of my time, and get real grumpy when I have to stop enjoying my drive to fix something. I can turn a wrench with the best of them, but I would much rather be looking out the windshield than under the hood.
I want it. I have even convinced my wife that it's a good idea. But I'm just not quite ready to commit yet.
Note - After convincing my wife, I will have to say I love the results no matter what. So if you read something positive from me a year from now, take it with a grain of salt.

Thanks, it's going to be a long process. I need to learn how to tig weld aluminum and stainless. I'm sure that'll take a month's worth of practice but it'll give me something to do and that's one of the reasons I went this route.

The wrong kind of transmission for me.
The only way this would make sense is to put the 60 body on the complete frame and running gear, them you have a....Chevy
No joy on the engine delivery yesterday. Don't know what's going on with Fedex. It took 3 days to get from Memphis to here and today is the fourth day it's been in town. It originally was scheduled to be delivered 10/23, then last night it changed to pending. I hope it gets delivered today.
