That's rad. If a swap can be kept under 20K this makes a lot of sense. Really hope they release a 3.5. Paired with a 6 speed GM tranny that would keep my cruiser going on family trips for another 20 years before they outlaw cars you can drive yourself

I'd like to know where/what they're doing for a bellhousing for the conversion.
My brother stopped by Advance Adapters a couple of days ago and talked about the 2.8.
According to him, AA has no parts for the conversion. They said the engine they worked on was pre production and they wouldn't make parts until production engines were available. It might take 30 days to 1 year before they have adapters available.
I was ready to order the engine, but now I'm reluctant if it's going to sit for months waiting for adapters.

Custom flywheel housing by TorFab I assume? Which bellhousing/flywheel/clutch are you using? Looks like an AA SBC to H42/H55 bellhousing.

How much did the Cummins 2.8 kit cost? I didn't think they went on sale yet.
We are using an adapter from the Cummins to a 4L60e, then an AA bellhousing from that to an H55f. The Cummins flywheel got machined down to reduce rotational mass, and the AA flywheel also got machined down for the same reason.

@mtquivr I think they have a machined adapter. I also think they bolt two flywheels together then lighten them up.
According to the guy he talked to, they have no parts available.

Any machine shop can make them, and with the interest this engine is generating in the off road community and the very capable folks involved with it so far, I'd bet someone will step up if there's a bottleneck.

I'm not sure but I would bet it's the same if not similar to the SAE bellhousing used on the B3.3. There's a bellhousing adapter and also an adapter to be able to use an automotive flywheel behind the OEM diese flywheel. I got this stuff from Phoenix Machine and Casting in Nebraska. Bolt these up, and then it will accept Chevy stuff (or an AA Chevy to Toyota bellhousing).

I don't know if the SAE adapter will work or not. The AA guy did tell my brother that their 4bt/6bt stuff would not work.

I have been following the developments of this engine for awhile, but I am worried about having a fully loaded fj55 and there not being the power that is needed. I guess the curb weight is about 6,000lbs, where the fj62 is about 5,000lbs. What's your take?

Chevrolet Pressroom - United States - Colorado

Based on the Chevy Colorado above with the 2.8 lists curb weight plus GVW (loaded with stuff and max trailering) to a total of 7600 lbs.

If it's your rig loaded (no trailer) is under that you would prob fine. Added vehicle/payload and trailer is north of that prob want to wait for the next motor size up yo.

Damn! Just spent my money on a new van. Been waiting too long on this release. I'm sure cummins will sell these little engines like hotcakes.

Not impressed with Cummins on this. They don't seem to be willing to publish any meaningful details about their engine package. How about a wiring diagram, that might be useful for some people. How about cruise control capability? How about a BSFC curve?

They could just publish a few technical drawings of the back of the engine and you guys could design some adapters in solidworks for hundreds of applications. Cut those blokes at Advance Adapters right out of the equation.

Intresting to see how many years it will take the next engine to arrive. I can only assume it will be the isf 3.8 or the 5.0 v8. I cant see them releasing a isb 5.9 or a 6.7 crate engine since they are already available and painless has standalone harnesses for them.

I watched a youtube video this weekend where one of these was put in a Jeep. They mated an NV3550 (iirc) to the engine and they used both the flywheel that came with the 2.8 and the Jeep flywheel with a spacer inbetween thus allowing them to run all the standard clutch pieces. Seemed like a good idea to solve that problem but also seemed like a lot of extra mass to add to the equation....though the engine probably doesnt care.

the website seems more like a tease...hey we have this great new engine...we might sell it to the public one day.

They machined both flywheels to remove weight. Of course, the extra mass on a wheeling rig wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing.
Their rollout of this engine leaves a lot to be desired.

Usually if CARB certified, it says that in big letters. But, if you're earlier than 98, and can get it signed off as a diesel swap, you should drop off the smog testing requirement. I'm going to wait and see what @orangefj45 does with this. He's got the diesel swap thing figured out for California and I'd rely on his wisdom.

For California, once it states "CARB Approved ".

Frankly, I am no longer begging to dump 18k into my 60.

I got that same email, I couldn't find a price for that kit? Does anyone know?.

18K can buy a lot of gas with lots of left over to rebuild the 2F.
