Haha, yeah, those hooks are good for around 1200 pounds so a nice "fuse" before failure. Once it started straightening the hook it was time for the next location.

That's the only thing I am not so sure about. I know it will be stable, but it might put too much weight forward and make it hard to move. I might talk to my friend about extending them forward. The 12h-t would extend beyond the front by about 9" the way it is. Would be nice if it came all the way out even. I intend to see a lot of Toyota 6 cylinder engines on this one.

Yeah, that was my concern looking at it as well. Don't know where center of gravity is on a 12h-t but it seems like sound practice
to have the feet at least as long as the engine...and I know 2Fs are heavy as hell

Oh hey, BTW...that dent was put there by a purely vertical drop (on a big rock)
so it may be useful to go down with the tug as well....if the forks will do that.

I would definitely extend the legs on the engine stand. The 12HT Is about a 1000 lbs. You don’t want to take any chances with it.

I agree. I told them to figure for a thousand pounds, and it is beefy enough, but they just can't get their heads unwrapped from the SBC V8 world. That six is 50% longer. He'll fuss a bit then fix it right up.

I started working on Chunk at my shop this afternoon. Since I don't own a stud welder/dent puller (yet) I improvised. I went after the rocker panel dent to get it out close to proper so I could then replace the face of it with the new piece that came with Chunk. I used my welder to buzz on some 5/16" bolts, then made a puller head with a nut and washer. I used one of the forklifts to pull on the studs and worked the dent out. I tore the rocker up pretty good but that's all good because I just needed it all dimensionally nice to replace the face part. Good progress.

Out with the old, in with the new. Got up at 4:00 so I could get a little done this morning before the shop officially opened and I had to quit having fun and start working.

Super rough fit, but it will work nice. Have to go get some 3m weld thru primer and a spool of .023 wire for the welder for the next step.

2- build a 600hp turbo setup on the 80
3- get the fj45 running
4- get the fj55 in usable shape

Got the fix done on the stand today. Added 12" to it. I feel a lot better about it now. I still have to make the mount fit and get bolts for it. Then powder coated.

Got the rust spots sand blasted and ready for patching.

Pretty minor stuff. The quarter will take some finess but it will be fun.

A couple more in the door but not bad either. Bodywork from the corner like that with the nice curve of the lower door is pretty easy to make nice.

I love when I can salvage even the tiniest bit of metal around the edge like on the door and the quarter because they make such a nice template for a patch. If I go real easy stitching with that .023 wire I can bond it nice without burning the crap out of it. Butt welds sometimes take a little chasing but I don't want to overlap the patches.

I will take all the advice I can get on what to use on the bottom of the body for coating. I had figured on 3m Rocker Shutz then PPG DP90 satin black epoxy primer, but I have been out of the bodywork loop for so many years I wonder if I should just be considering one of the new bedliner type finishes. It would be kinda cool to get the color to match the body but if I do go with white then that might be a dumb move.

Anyway, what do you all think about coatings on the underside? I like materials that have a hardener with them because they seem so superior. Bedliner? There are brands like Raptor Liner but I don't know much about them. Something rubbery but tough and easy to power wash with maybe some texture would be the goal.

thats it Pat. I only used it cause my paint supply guy recommended it. Seems to have worked well. did my rear quarter on my blue truck a few years ago and it's still holding well.
