How deep are you going to go?

Deep enough to replace your rear heater lines?
I'm not sure. Of course this will be my first time.

To replace the rear heater lines, you must drop the transmission, or in your case, maybe you're going to pull the engine or just the head?

Some folks have sworn they will pull the whole engine next time, others say no.

Maybe pull the head then see what the cylinders look like, then make that decision.

Of course, you know that every rubber part in there that you haven't already replaced as well as the fuel filter (if not already done) should be done easiest with the intake plenum removed.

You'll find lots of stuff in there that you want to do, but I would definitely focus on as many rubber parts as you can reach since that was a truck that lived where it was hot for most of its life.

As much as I appreciate someone willing to tear into the 1FZ, (and I have done 3 rebuilds now), please consider a LS swap.

Sell the supercharger and you should have about enough to do it. It won't keep up with your other ride... but it is a start

We did laugh about the idea of a LS, but. . I don't know 😕🤷🏽‍♂️

Let me assess the damage in the few weeks, then go from there. I'll start researching the LS swap idea tonight.

I sold the Challenger last weekend, so I have a few extra $$ in my pocket.

I'm in the same boat as @MyWhiteSheep. My Cruiser has 275K miles and I've just placed an order for parts to do a rebuild. Between the leaks and valve seals, it's time to freshen up the engine and once healthy, I can then start considering options for power adders. I would prefer to keep the 1FZFE even though it is down on power compared to modern engines.

Hey @MyWhiteSheep keep me informed on what you plan to do. I will be making a call to AutoMachineShop in Fayetteville to see if they have an opening.

Sorry guys @lumbee1 and @MyWhiteSheep !! Look forward to the cool stuff you will do, though!

Unlike Darren, mine still runs like a champ. It just smokes and pisses everywhere.

Carolina Relic Run 2021

LS swap will be more powerful, and probably not that much more expensive than a full 1FZ rebuild. Ask @fourtrax how much it cost to rebuild his.

As mentioned above and as we talked about at relic run last weekend, you could do the whole swap for the cost of selling the blower if you do it yourself :)

Whatever @cruisermatt says is gospel. He has been great help with my LS swap in the 73 series.

Price wise, I got lucky, bought an entire truck that was wrecked and was able to net zero cost after selling all the parts I did not need.

About $2400 with the extra bits I purchased.

$1200 labor from Auto Machine Shop in Fayetteville
$679 4.5L 1FZ-FE 1993-1997 Land Cruiser Master Rebuild Kit https://www.lceperformance.com/Premium-Master-Rebuild-Kit-p/1010080.htm
$400 engine mount, trans mount, PCV, PCV tube, thermostat, rear main seal, oil pump seal, heat shields, inspection cover

Well, there you go... @thatcabledude is the other go to guy for LS info.

Pretty sure we are in a democracy still, sound like the vote is in. LS swap! Might I recommend a 3rd gen and 5speed tranny?

FWIW, your engine must have been in good shape. I've had machine work come back above $1200 for a 1FZ-FE head, just the head, before.

I haven't gotten the work done yet. Just spoke to AMS over the phone. They rebuilt @fourtrax engine and head and @NCTrey133 engine not too long ago.

Dipity's long block rebuild was about 2300
The 22re long block rebuild was about 1800

@MyWhiteSheep you still planning on going to Japan? Import issues with swapping in an LS?

Sorry to read about these issues, feel free to bend my ear if you want to vent… or cast blame 😉

I called a different one that was recommended. They said 3-4 weeks. The other shop has had Kirk's block for 4 months.

Very true. I think the LS will pass thier emissions, but thier heads will explode once they opened the hood.

I'm hoping just a few things are out of whack (Let's call it "Tajikified") that just need to be back in spec.
