Think I will pull the engine this weekend and go from there. Been making some miscellaneous drunken purchases that Ive been wanting to make. I'll give a better update Saturday/Sunday.

Quick recap:
Rough idle while in drive/reverse.
Cylinder 6 misfiring, then the others.
Low compression in all cylinders with cylinders 5 and 6 less than 60.
Never overheated.
Never low on coolant.

Went to @fourtrax house this morning. Drained the oil/coolant. No coolant in the oil. While tearing down the engine Eric (fourtrax) noticed the rear Y-pipe having a lot of carbon build up. He thinks that a valve might be stuck open. Also after pulling the spark plugs for the compression test a week in a half ago, 5 and 6 plugs had a lot of carbon on them. (The plugs were installed a few days prior).

Tomorrow morning we'll get at it again and finish taking the engine out of the LC.

Without the help of Eric and his tools, I would of quite early afternoon. We were at it from 11am - 5:30pm with a few breaks from the rain and having lunch. Most of it is tolerable, but other things are at a s***ty angle.

Pulled the motor today and there was more evidence that it's been Tajikified. All four of the top transmission bolts were missing, the torque converter had a few stripped bolts, and a lot of FIPG throughout 🤦🏽‍♂️

The intake/exhaust valves aren't to spec, and there is a lot of carbon build up. Going to call the machine shop in the morning to see if I can drop the motor off next week. After the machine shop tells me the damage, I will more than likely buy the rebuild kit @lumbee1 recommended.

Premium Master Rebuild Kit - https://www.lceperformance.com/Premium-Master-Rebuild-Kit-p/1010080.htm

In the meantime, I'll be cleaning and painting parts, and getting the grime out of the engine bay. . And a few other things.

Looking good bro, good progress. Isn't it great having bros with tools, knowledge, and a willingness to help?

Of course, and greatly appreciative. I'd be lost without him.

Let us know when the wedding is and we’ll all be there with our cruisers cheering both of you on.

Did you flatten the front tires to make it easier to work on?

Talked to the machine shop this morning and they are 2-3 months backed up :( Going to drop the motor off next week after the holiday. Hope I can get it back before my upcoming deployment in Oct 🙏

Please chime in if you have recommendations.

There are other machine shops. Not to say they won't be backed up as well, but thoff in raleigh has done a number of projects for me in the past.

@mtweller found another shop in raleigh somewhere that he had do a bunch of work on his old 2FE. IIRC he was pleased.

Pleased with the actual work performed by John West machine shop - but the overall experience was brutal. John West is an a******, point blank. His machinist at the time was awesome and had given me an ETA. When I called a couple of time after the ETA, John got on the phone and proceeded to put me on blast for "bugging his guy". I literally was following direction on when to call for updates. I told him to **** off and I'd come get my parts, but the guy doing the work talked me out of it. This was several years ago and I have no idea what the shop is like now, but at that time they had my block and head for a couple months before it was complete. They do a lot of work with local racers and that is currently in mid-season, so that was always the priority work for them.

I used a guy in Roxboro NC for my LS headwork and he did a great job with a quick turnaround. Deep Creek Motors. Really good guys and an old-school shop with s*** strewn everywhere and a place where you know a handshake means something. I was very please with the cost (much much lower than Boyette's estimate) and turnaround. I found it worth the drive.

So, while I'm in there. . .Ive already made a few purchases that ill be installing.

Distributor (installed)
Igniter (installed)
New bolts holding the engine to transmission (installed)
Power steering pump (installed)
Derale 17" power steering cooler (installed)
Oil level sending unit (installed)
Oil pressure sending unit (installed)
Fuel filter (installed)
Upgrade battery bracket (installed)
Leather steering wheel cover (installed)
Refresh the hood (liner, bumpstops) (installed)
Rear shock bolts and protector (installed)

Lol. Maybe half the purchases were sober.

👍 for the Steely Dan reference ... very chill

Also 👍 for the "while in there" build list and making purchases while having beverages. I find it much easier to buy parts after a few beers.

Thanks for knowing the reference. Though I'm only 37, in an old soul with music. Really like Steely Dan. Was gonna name my daughter Aja.

I've been doing some painting 😏

This weekend put on a new oil pressure sensor, new fuel filter (though my oil one was only a few yrs old) and added both chair reclining levers.

This morning @fourtrax brought my engine to the machine (which is an hour away from where he lives). The shop might not get to it until 2-3 months from now. I'll be deploying late Sept/early Oct. @fourtrax will help while I'm gone. Can't ask for a better friend. Thank you 🙌🏽

Here is a quick look into the future of Deacon Blue.

Question: should I delete my EGR?

I've been blocking the hoses and have a resistor installed for about a year now.

Now that the engine is out, should I delete it completely? I've heard only U.S. LCs have the EGR. I'm currently in North Carolina where 25 yr old vehicles don't have emissions, and if they did, people here would know what the EGR is.
