I pulled the original cylinder for your Cruiser and the 60570 and verified they are the same port orientation too. Good to go.
 
forgive me for reviving an old thread, but I was looking for info on LC MCs and this was a good read.

Where is this residual pressure valve you guys talk about located on the MC? is it inside the MC? an external fitting? Why is it needed? why is there no such thing mentioned in the circuits found in the FSM?

I have installed and rebuilt many different MCs on different 80s, I never saw any 'residual valve' ON the MC.
some have a distribution valve fitted below the MC, some have direct brake lines going to the diffs (F and R), some have LSPV at the rear and in the ABS equipped vehicles all lines go through the ABS pump assembly. But the MCs mostly are the same to the eye apart from the port locations and heat shield fittings. Am I getting it right or wrong?
 
Great question and reminder I need to tag back in on this project and flesh out details and add some more cylinders we now have.

The older cylinders (i.e. 70's era stuff) had a residual valve under the large removeable nut. With the 6x/7x/8x masters I suspect any needed pressure retention/limiting for the rear drums would be accomplished solely in the LSPV or similar? Thus there are cylinders used with residual or abs but it's not actually part of the cylinder itself. I know the 6x cylinder is his way so the built in residual likely died with the 4x/5x unless they place it underneath the brass fitting insert within some cylinders. I'll have to pull some and check when I update the thread.
 
I have a 92 and I'm about to put 93 disk/disk axles under it. The new axles were from an ABS but I won't be using it. Do I need to change my master cylinder to the BKN60570N? Can you PM a price to me?

I'm also in a '92 and converted to a '96 disk rear and '96 front calipers/discs. I'd like to change over to an appropriate master cylinder and booster. What would you recommend?
 
I have a 94 disk/disk abs. I installed a 98 4runner booster and Mc only for the reason I had one when my LC booster went out. Had to swap both because the booster from the 4runner had a different bolt pattern to the Mc. It has worked great. Had to change a few bends in the lines at the Mc because of different port locations, but it bolted right up.
 
I know it is counter intuitive, but a larger diameter master delivers more volume, but at a lower hydraulic pressure for the same amount of foot pressure. If your pedal travel is too long or if your brakes are too sensitive, then you may want a larger diameter master. If you need more pressure, get a smaller diameter master.

Bumping an old thread I think I can benefit from.

My '74 Pig has the original MC - I think it is 1"? It just says ASCO on the passenger side, no bore diameter marking.

I added a disc brake front end (40/55 calipers) and then removed the residual valve from the front circuit.

Pedal effort is strenuous if I want to stop fast. So I think I want a MC similar to that found on my '78 40 w/ disc front/drum rear from the factory.

My Pig has the ports on the side of the MC, while the 40 has the ports out the top.

Maybe a 7/8" MC bore would help?

A 7/8 inch piston has 30% less area than a one inch piston, so it will develop 30% more pressure. I imagine you would notice the difference. It will also deliver 30% less volume for the same piston travel, so you would want to make sure your rear drums are always adjusted so you don’t ever have to double pump.

I think I used one from a 1984 HJ41 the link above shows some Hilux and Surf compatibility too. fit is indicated for 8/94-8/97 Hilux (non USA)

I don't think we've ever had them organized or cataloged in our application guides by bore, that would be interesting to do.
