Hello I’m the new guy! I have a cool rig and questions.
So this week I will be picking up my first 1996 LC80. In the past I have owned LC100 and LC200. Pretty stoked to get this new to me LC80 that’s built on 1 ton axles, and a million other cool mods.
First thing I need to sort is the brakes. With the 1 ton axles (Chevy front- Ford rear) and bigger brakes the brake master is undersized. The brake pedal goes almost all the way to the floor. So I’m looking for a master cylinder upgrade that can handle the extra capacity. I have searched the web but can’t seem to find anything. Help!

Getting the right size master cylinder is a little tricky because it not only has to move the proper amount of fluid, but also produce the proper pressure. The larger diameter piston moves more fluid, but also takes more pedal pressure. Make sure your 80 brakes are properly bled and do not “pump up” when you press the pedal (if the rear has drums). If the pedal rises when you pump it, this is a sign of misadjustment of drum brakes. If you have drums brakes, pick a master for the make and model truck with the axel that has the drums. If they are disk all around, pick a master for the truck that has 4 wheel disk brakes. Hope for the best, but it that doesn’t work, try another master.

Thank you for the response. Any idea on where to start looking for new master cylinder?

Most likely 1.125 or 1.188" bore will be about about right for you - Sky's makes a adpater to your stock booster, or you could go hydroboost which would be a project but would be worth it.

I just posted selling my hydro boost master cylinder from my 2002 UZJ100. It's just a complete core for rebuilding. Let me know. I'm asking $500. I paid over $1500 for a new one.

That’s not what we are talking about

Your master cylinder is sized for the corresponding calipers.

When you add 1Ton axles you also should add 1Ton master cylinders.

I recommend getting a Chevy or Ford master cylinder and upgrading to hydro boost. The only reason to run 1 ton axles is if you are on at least 40s and you’ll need some hydro boost for 40s.
