@jjdeneen918 There is no smog process (I'm talking out of my ass here), doubtful he will get one done soon. :deadhorse: Realistically, how can he be working on that when he cant even get all the turbo parts for current orders to be sent out? He's alsogot way more on his plate with family issues than the business.
Californian will just keep increasing their government control over the people and emissions. Gavin Newson has some brain dead idea that in 10 years he wants all combustion engines gone.
Here are some good question that many of us on here are probably already aware of or thinking..... 1: If you were a small business owner how much $ would you commit to a carb cert for California turbo clients when you know it may be void by the time you put countless $$$$ and development into it?
2: How much profit can I as a business owner make from the carb cert?
3:Would my $ and time be better invested into other projects that cruiser heads would purchase with no regulation?
4: Is it even possible to make the turbo cali compliant? Cali just made it so residents cannot even install a brand new OEM LS3 in their rig with fully compliant emissions, computers and catalytic converters, right from GM etc..
5: There is a ton of demand for the turbo Joey is making, enough that he cant keep up, so if you were a business owner why would you spend time and $ trying to make something work for potential clients in 1 state when you cant even keep up with the demand from the other 49?
Not trying to be rude, but I'm just pointing out some ways to look at things objectively.
Oh, did I mention I'm installing my turbo this weekend? 😁 no smog cert in utah 🤣

Also remember, IIRC, the first one he sent in was totaled by the folks doing the testing.

Because he said he was going to work with SEMA to obtain the smog certificate.

if he’s not going to then he should say so, at this point I feel, as a customer, I’m being ignored.

I get that it has been a long time, maybe even too long in your opinion, probably Joey would agree with you on that. Keep in mind that for the past year you could barely purchase gum in kalifornia, do you realistically think he could make significant progress with a turbo CARB certification for a 25 year old station wagon? If he isn’t answering you it’s because there is no significant news to report, when there is he will broadcast that out, no need for pm’s and shout outs.

6 months for a response doesn’t seem too much to ask. I’ve been asking, politely & periodically, since last November.

If Sema didnt wreck the truck, you would probably have that cert. However when buying something that has a carb cert pending you are taking a gamble. Thus why I have not pulled the trigger if I get transferred to Texas this year then I’m gonna buy one and not care. However living in CA I just don’t wana deal with the smog hassle.

I’m guessing Joey can’t get any real answers from CARB as to when they will schedule his again. Not to mention there could still be a pending law suit from the totaled truck which could prevent Joey from speaking to anyone regarding things. (I don’t know any more than any of you)

Based on my professional experience with Joey if he’s quiet there is a reason.

So if someone doesn't get back to you for 6 months about a question do you think there is a high probability of the answer being a resounding and ecstatic YES!! or do you think perhaps the answer might be a no? Like if you were to think about it?

Even if he responded it seems you'd want to take your business elsewhere, no?

I love Wits End products and I appreciate Joey’s commitment to helping us 80 series owners improve our trucks. I’m a loyal customer and will continue to be one. However, in my opinion, your expectation of a response is perfectly reasonable. I too, have asked to be responded to and was also ignored. I also realize Joey’s been through a personal hell. That sucks. He’s certainly not the only one though and life goes on. It has to. He’s constantly promoting new products and ideas on instagram. His difficulties in life are not holding him back from doing that so asking for a response about a product purchased 18 months ago doesn’t seem unreasonable to me. It’s the right thing to do.

Geeze, I’m just back on Mud after basically a 5 yr absence, and I had just ordered something from Wits End, and was breezing through his products and saw the turbo kit, and then stumbled upon this thread. Haven’t gone through all 285 pages of posts, but it seems he has been hit hard with both family/personal/ business issues. Seems very familiar with what is currently going on another forum(s) with Rodder’s Journal. Those guys had been absent for months and finally responded and admitted comms could/should have been better. Having only known Joey through his posts and products since joining Mud over 10 yrs ago, I can say without a doubt his pursuit of excellence which is echoed in his products is first class. Folks need to keep in mind that Covid has really really screwed up our world, and the old normal is no longer “normal”. Having lost my wife weeks before the Covid lockdowns started last March, I can testify firsthand that it has impacted me mentally to this very day and will continue to do so for who knows how long. Be kind and be patient maybe even more than you have already been. Good luck Joey, and prayers for you and your wife.

Well said and my condolences to you sir. I'm very sorry for your loss. This has been a tragic year for so many families across the world.

I too have lost family members to the pandemic and also my mother to cancer this past year. I will say I’ve been nothing but respectful and professional to Joey in my requests for information and updates. I haven’t hounded him. I paid for my turbo in November of 2019. I’m fine with continuing to wait for it because I have kept up with all that has happened and I understand why I don’t have it. It does suck when people feel the need to tell us who are waiting that they have theirs and have installed it. I was so much anticipating it and what it would do for my 80. I just think it would in turn be respectful to me to keep me informed when I ask, that’s all.

Just FYI, some of us posting that they have received their turbo (I'm one of the most recent) is at the request of Joey. It's an update of sorts to let people know that he's still working on getting these out the door and that they are still shipping when they're ready.

I just got a 1996 LX and interested in the turbo kit. For the people that have installed it...how does it run?
Turbo 1FZ is one of the best engines you can have in a cruiser
