"Currently I connected the step down transformer through a relay to the high side battery positive, and to the ground of the frame (which is connected to the low side negative). Is there an issue with this" .

I am not that familiar to the BJ75 wiring system , but , assuming that it works the same way every 24volt European spec Land Cruiser does , I strongly suspect that with that setup ( and that is a very well thought set up anyway ) , sooner or later one of the batteries will be out of balance , and then only one of them will be charged correctly . As a result , both batteries have to be replaced .
You can use the Ignition on/keyed 24v point at that small black box to power the 24-12 volt transformer . I think it has the 15 or 20 amps fuse ( please check ) , so that should have enough power to do that . If possible , completely avoid connecting anything directly to any of the batteries .

I have used cruiserworld.eu for A/C compressor on the FJ73. One thing to remember when buying parts from them is that they will remove the VAT from the price if it is going out of the country.

can you post up pictures of how the snorkel connects to the air cleaner?

Hi Scott, love the truck!

24v looks like IPF lights. What model did you use? I have a 24v troopy and haven't gotten around to this yet but would like to install some lights. Where can I buy them?

Thanks....Rodney.

When the truck arrived I discovered the snorkel is... ...just for looks... and was not connected. The factory setup remains. I've ordered parts to connect the snorkel up and will be modifying the airbox. I did this once on my FJ40 and it worked well. Probably a month or so before that project is tackled.

The IPF Lights were also on the truck when it arrived, they were installed by a previous owner and were wired to one battery since they are 12v. I changed this setup so that the lights run off of the 24v-12v step down converter through a relay.

One of the batteries only has 25% of it's life left currently; damage done by incorrect previous owner wiring. I'll change the setup over to pull from the small black box in the near future, before new batteries are required for replacement. Thanks for the help!

Things that don't work always bug me, and this one was pretty small. The light behind the climate control panel did not work. I didn't even know it had a light in there until I was messing with the fan switch and discovered the teeny bulb. Since then, it's bugged me that it didn't work. A little research on the forum here and I discovered I would not need to replace the entire bulb/harness thing that I found discontinued; I could just swap put the teeny bulb (thanks to the knowledge of Cruiser Dan). Bonus was that I would not have to pull the entire assembly out like one would if replacing the bulb and harness. Picked up a new bulb and removed the trim piece in front of the heat/cool controls. Pulled off the knobs as well so I could pull the plate off and get to the bulb.

Removed the label plate, and the clear plastic piece behind it that distributes the light, just bend two plastic tabs on the right slightly and the clear plastic will pop off and can be removed. Behind the clear plastic you can access the bulb. There was a small green plastic thing on the bulb, not sure what it does, likely something with the color. The green cover came off easily and the bulb then pulled straight out. New bulb in place, green cover back on and tested the light. Works.

Vacuumed out the dust and wiped everything down, snapped the clear plastic back in place and the label plate, then the trip piece. Now I can look at this in the evenings :)

That Dan guy (@cruiserdan ) has a head full of Cruiser knowledge. :)
.... and yes that's the Land Cruiser Museum in the background.

Coolant flush this last week, changed thermostat and water temperature senders. A couple questions. Why are there two different water temp sensors? I get that one would run to the gauge in the dash, what does the other do? I replaced both temp sensors, part numbers 89422-20010 and 83420-20020.

Another one of those things that could work but really does not need to... headlamp washers. The truck has them, but the bottle leaks out everything poured into it. Changed the small rubber part where the fluid pump connects into the washer fluid bottle, checked to ensure it would not leak and installed. Now I have headlamp washers that work! Old rubber part on left you can see was very cracked/brittle. New one on right stopped all the leaks.

One other interesting find. When pulling the front skid plate to get to the radiator petcock, I noticed these two little items. To the left and right of the steering stabilizer there are receiver tubes. Any idea what these would have been used for? They are bolted into the frame and don't appear to be a hack job, but they do not exactly look stock.

One is for the gauge and the other for glow plugs/glow screen. On the BJ74 the glow screen never goes on until under freezing or something like that so you can’t tell if it’s working or not.
So to test it you unplug it and it tricks the system into thinking it’s cold so it turns the heater grid on.

Noticed an issue a few weeks ago, there was a fuel leak coming from the rotary injection pump. It was leaking fuel, about a drop every 5 seconds when running. Took the pump into a diesel shop and had them check if they could just replace gaskets and get the leaking to stop, no such luck. When I first purchased the truck the filter light was on and when I changed the fuel filter it was extremely dirty. It had lots of gunk in it as well. Appears all that a good amount of gunk made it's way into the injection pump and wreaked havoc on the pump. Old pump here, yellow circle shows where fuel was pooling.

A few days and dollars (more than a few) later, a rebuilt pump was installed. No leaking issues now. The shop advised me to pull the fuel tank, drain it and steam clean the inside; there is probably a good amount of crap in the fuel tank. I have not cleaned a fuel tank before; I watched a few video's on YouTube and it seems pretty easy - pull, drain, dish soap/wipe out inside, rinse, rinse, dry out, let air dry, reinstall. I do have access to a steam cleaner as well. Anything else I should do or a particular method of cleaning out the tank?
