So I'm in a spot where I can do some upgrades to the LX450. She's got great torque and taking things in 4L is a lot of fun. What's not a lot of fun is leaving Denver and going up into the mountains and hearing the engine scream at me as I have it floored and I'm barely doing 55mph. What would be the best and/or cheapest and effective way to gain some more power at altitude?

Take the od off before you climb, I run 37s and 5.29s and can climb up out Denver doing 65 to 70 all way, just got get speed up and click out of od before you start climbing

downshifting works, too

Turbo . "cheap" and you can start off with a base setup and work it up to higher HP numbers if around 250HP isnt enough

Scotty- youre on the site at 5am? Shouldnt you be cruisin that turbo80 instead

Before anyone actually thinks I was serious about the 150 shot of nitrous, I wasn't. But realistically and to my knowledge it hasn't been done but I bet you could do a 35-50 wet shot of nitrous triggered off of the throttle position sensor, and it would be a lot cheaper than anything else and give you real performance gains not MAF voodoo :)

Time for you to figure it out and do a write up, I think.

Haha you guys are funny fuqqers . Scotty im gonna have to get in contact with you when im in SA , i really want to see that truck ! Im up here in austin "at work" too

Haha its somebody else's turn to spend their money.... But I am not going to lie I was just on Summit Racing's site looking at kits. For less than $500 you can get a complete wet system with 35, 50, 75, etc nozzles, tank, hoses, microswitches, etc.

I am not talking about some fast and Furious system obviously but a setup that uses, an arming switch, throttle position and a Window switch. So that it would only work at certain rpms and when the throttle was at say 75%+, and could be completely turned off and on with the arming switch.

Use a small shot 35 or 50 and only at specific high load times like climbing a steep mountain or needing power pulling a trailer and a 15lb bottle could last a long time.

good to know. maybe someone can add enough nos shot to get airborne like that lamborghini in fast n furious or was it another movie . just hit 200+ mph and then we can start talking about which dressses the stewardess should wear , right?

or no dresses at all?

Best/cheap means a lot of different things to a lot of different people here. Especially the cheap part. Do you have a set budget?

Also tell us more about your rig, how many miles, what year, what mods/tire size/extra weight etc. then we can get an idea what we're working with. If you have oversized tires then re-gearing would probably be your best bet - however to some that might be cheap and others a pipe dream...
How's your engine condition? Again how many miles, what type of maintenance has been done and when? Maybe a really good tune up is all that is needed to get a little more oomph if it's been a while since anything was done...

No FJC80, I am absolutely serious. The more I think about it the more realistic and actually helpful I think it would be.

Since it is a wet shot you are spraying fuel with the NO2 so it could be used on obd1 and obd2 trucks. The setup would be important but like I said with a master switch and tps, and a Window switch you could dial it in very well.

Example. You are going on a weekend trip you're loaded very heavy, you are on the highway, you hit the master switch, when your rpms are between 2750 and 5000 and you're giving it 75% throttle you get a 35-50hp spray (which is 25% more power) and NO2 is cooling the motor. now when you get to your camping spot you turn the master switch off, you hit low range you crawl around all weekend no change to the stock engine setup no extra heat no small fan from the SC, nothing taking up room in the engine bay, etc, then on your way home you flip the master switch again and benefit from extra power.

Only downside I can see is filling the bottle, but not much different then the guys running powertanks.

If I didn't already have a turbo this idea would easily be worth the $1500 it might take to try it out.
