I'm tired of my sunroof leaking... I've cleaned the drains, probably not as well as I should have... but I gave it the old college try, and it still leaks inside. I have an ARB roof rack and NEVER use the sun roof. I'll eliminate the sunroof when I paint in the future. For now... What is the best sealant/caulk to seal the sun roof? I live in central Texas and have received 22" of rain in the past 4 days. Most of it seems to be inside my 97 Cruiser!

Thanks!

Have your tried adjusting the sunroof height? From inside the vehicle if you push up on the glass does it move significantly upward??

The glass (assembly) can sag allowing too much water to get past the seal, adding shims under the glass assembly (to push it upwards and closing the gap) may help. Also adjusting the position of the glass fore or aft may make a difference along with extra shims, you can test leakage using a garden hose.

Search for "Shim, sliding roof panel"

There are two types, Type A and Type B (short and long) and two different thicknesses for each, depending on position under the glass assembly
(or, you can pick up an assortment of U type shims from any auto parts store, Harbor Freight, etc)

Others have placed a thin string between the rubber seal and the glass to push the seal outward a bit.

I don't know exactly what the PO used on mine, but I really wish he hadn't. I'm also not ENTIRELY sure it solved the problem unless the water is finding its way in through another route - it's only an issue on the rainiest of days, so it's hard to pin down. Eventually, I'm going to have to clean that mess out of there and fix it the right way.

I pulled mine out a few weeks ago and used an old soft shoe polish brush plus dawn and water to clean my seal gently. I was floored with the dirt and debris that came out of the edge seal. Then I did Jon Held’s trick with a wrap of butchers twine between the seal and the glass.

Final step was some 303 seal protection. Wind noise gone and leak free.
