How does the 3FE flywheel compare to the F flywheel, and which flywheel would be the best choice for torque in my future 2.5FE?

Our 3FE's are all automatic's, so they have no "flywheel" but a flexplate......never seen a non USA manual 3FE flywheel so I can't comment, but it would be hard to source here.....

get a 3 speed flywheel they weigh more and will give more torque

I would assume that the manual 3f FW is about the same weight as a later 2F FW. The F wil have more mass to it = more lugging power..

wow...just saw this thread float to the top of the board.
just in time.

i'm dropping my '83ish head off at a well-recommended machine shop.
talked to the guy today, said once he got the head he would give me a call about the valves i wanted to put in there (i know that one of the #4 valves is deformed...booo).

so could i feasibly ask him to put in the SS SBC valves and ferd seals? or maybe that's too much to ask?

No, changing to stainless SBC valves. But a ford seal happens to fit w/ the SBC valve in a Toyota guide.

also, does anybody have part numbers for the SS SBC valve stuff?

or should i just go with the stock stuff and not really worry about it?

thanks a lot, this thread is great....

the chev valves are fairly easy to put in. my machinist just finished this on my 3FE head. it took some coaxing and some time, but we got it done.

i dont think there was a stock valve that he found, but you can give them a call and ask what the setup was. tell them eric with the 2F block sent you, they will know what you want to know. the block is still there being balanced.

You are balancing your block?!? Hmm, never been sold that service before!

it leaned way to far to the right... i also had the under-over flippindecker re-gonkulated. that was EXPENSIVE!

yeah, if you can get the specs out of my machinist, that should go somewhere! i should probably do a write up covering all the crap i did to that thing...

yes, it was started with the Fj60, so 81+ for the 40 and the 60. the 81's deffenetly feel like they rev easier than the earlier 2F's

Actually the "lightened valve train happened before 85, maybe 81? This is one of those questions for Mark W or Jim C. I'm not sure that makes the motor better. My seat of the pants observation is that a later 2F is better on the highway and the earlier 2f has better low end grunt. It could just be my particular examples though.

Yes.

Are there oversized pistons avaliable for the 2F?

Ok, so say your rebuilding a 2F and you want more performance than stock are oversized pistons really a viable option. Yes, you can do it but what are the pros and cons? Are there other more bang for your buck options?

(just thinking out loud!)

Building a 2F as strong as I can and gonna throw it under my 3FE intake (85+ 2F shares the same head, right?). Looking to get between 200 and 250rwhp from a frankinstein 2FE. If boring 1.5mm over w/ oversized pistons will help get me there, then that's what I need to look into.

These F series engines aren't like GM/Ford V8s where you can pick up and magazine and find stuff for them. Mud is the only place I know to ask, and this is the best place to ask. So Mark, where can I get the oversized pistons?

250 hp out of a Naturally aspirated 2F would be complicated.

5mm oversized pistons won't get you much more power if any..

might get you close to 200hp...
