hey Ben, any progress on the ash tray replacement ? i want to order a few things and would like to ship it in one hit to Australia
so i am waiting patiently

how did the RH version of the cup holder go ?

in the ashtray replacement or the upper sunglasses holder i would like to mount a gauge unit as the diesel model doesnt support the OBD2 we cant use the scan guage
I am sorry on the slow progress on the ashtray replacement. Have been working long hours on my work project, a novel soft robotic gripper. I am working on the journal paper and trying to publish it on Soft Robotics which is the top journal in my field. I cannot release too much on the project. But once the paper is accepted. I will defensively share it. Anyway it is a bio inspired gripper with tunable stiffness. Haha sounds strange.

I know you have like a billion cool projects on the go but I thought I would ask if there's any progress on this one? I've got my camera in hand and a broken 3rd brake light. Reeealy want to take care of both (once) haha
I purchased a used 3rd row brake light. It is on the way.

I used to love weather tech a lot. I have their mats in every car I owned. But I found the mats now are much thinner. Is it just me or they want to save on material cost?
I went with the WeatherTech "All Weather" mats. They are the more traditional-looking mats rather than the liners WT makes. I prefer the look of them and I've been loving them so far in a really snowy and wet winter. It seemed that the WT liners quality went way down in the past years and I didn't like the other mat options (not color matched or looked low quality). I had to cut the second row to fit, but that wasn't too hard.

I just purchased the hood struts. The hood dropped on my head literally last weekend.

Peace of mind when you're under the hood now. It's kinda scary when that hood comes crashing down.

Can you take a picture of the place you mentioned? Also I may need you to take the DVD fixture off and mail it to me.
Hey Ben, see the below picture. Let me know if you need more info. Thx!

@BenCC an item I'd love to have is a gas strut lock for the hood strut and the rear hatch strut. I have new struts but when it is below 20 degrees it is just dicy. I've only ever seen them on the iKamper tents so wondering if you could make some up? Maybe in a bright color so it is obvious when they are in. It would certainly give me peace of mind when working under the hood.

I was thinking to make a open tube and insert it to lock the strut when I woke under the hood. This verified the idea. I will make this.

Doesn't seem like you need testers for this one with your unfortunate incident so I'll just offer to by the first one available

No, the DVD player was removed from the previous owner. Not sure about the addition of the light. I can only assume he removed the factory player.
I tried to search eBay for a used overhead player or screen with no luck. I need this unit to make a cover or a functional storage unit based on its dimension.

Gotcha, I will see if I can find something.

I have an aftermarket DVD player in mine that never gets used. If you can give me some time, I can try to pull it and make up a template out of Lexan that I could ship to you @BenCC . Just might be a month or so.

I've been thinking about what would go nicely up there. My thought was to have the following made into a plate that bolts up there.
1) two lights that are wired in the same fashion as the dome light is now. ON-OFF-DOOR. Lights can be aftermarket LEDs and any 3 position switch would work.
2) USB socket, just 1 would be sufficient as most have two ports on them.
3) MOLLE panel, maybe 4 squares by 4 squares.
Since the light can be turned on without having the car turned on, I was thinking there might be a circuit up there that's always hot. I haven't looked at a wiring diagram so it may be tied in with a timed circuit that shuts it down after a couple of minutes. It would make the USB socket much more user friendly while camping if it was always hot.
The MOLLE panel would have to be for light loads only as I believe it's only supported by the headliner. The sunroof slides over the dvd player currently. I suppose heavier loads would be fine if the truck isn't in motion. You could use it while car camping but would need to take stuff down before hitting the road.

Just my thoughts for the morning. Let me know if I should make up a template.

Jim, that would be awesome!

The DVD player was removed to fit that light.... I was lucky enough to have a dealer who didn't go crazy with the hole.
I've removed mine and can send to Ben for mockup - Ben, let me know if you want the whole thing or measurements.

I've got a giant cutout from a now broken overhead video console. I've wanted to remove this but didn't know how to deal with the space. I'd be in for something.
