I am courious if anyone has an old Belleview Warn Winch on their 40. I have been looking for some sort of period correct winch for my 40. I am either thinking of the Warn 8274 or finding something a little more odd ball like the belleview. I have seen Belleviews come up for cheeper. I dont know if the mounting is the same for the belleview. I have a winch bumper that the 8274 would work with. The belleview seems to be really cool.

anyways looking for discussion and thoughts on both winches.

I had it on my 40, i believe it is a different mount than the 8274. Finding one with the cable controls can be a challenge from what I recall. It worked pretty well, however i think the 8274 has some benefits for not much more money.

I'm in the process of chasing down a 8274 for my 4runner for a good deal with plans to rebuild once i find one. Looks like they pop up in the 3-500 range fairly frequently, however finding one within a reasonable drive can be a challenge depending on where you're at.

There is a decent deal on one locally by me on FB that has a 8274 and Belleview. If you end up wanting the belleview, i could buy both and make you a deal if you're good with paying for shipping. Probably be ~$200 on the belleview.

I have one, basically the same as an 8274 but no power out and the brake is just a metal strap with a cork liner. Using a ford starter solenoid and a momentary switch to power it.

I am 100% planning to run this Warn 5687 on my 40. Not sure if this is the same thing as a Belleview or not. I acquired it when I bought my FJ62 "parts rig" (which is now my daily driver). It has the cool in-cab cable controls and everything. I am given to understand that these were made in the early 70s, making it period correct for my 40. I don't expect it to get much use, since I'm not really planning any serious wheeling in my 40, but it will look cool, and maybe come in handy for dragging deadfall out of the bush.

They are pretty good bang for the buck. Seems like a good one can usually be had for $ 300-ish. Classic looks without the 8274 price tag.
THis is one reason I am interested. Not wanting to spend the big bucks on the 8274. it also would match my 1964 fj40 a little better I think.

I noticed the strap break on one I was looking at. kinda cool actually. basic but functional.

Warn bought Belleview, so yeah it is. That's how they got into the winch business. Previously, they had made locking hubs and other odds and ends.

Pretty much the same as @diesellibrarian I am picking one up for my 45 project next week. I don’t plan to use it much. But I do plan to do a few upgrades to it to “modernize” it. I did a search before committing to buy it, and overall people seemed to like them. It needs to look correct more than anything for my needs. With occasional use

I emailed customer service at warn to see what kind of rebuild parts are available for the belleview. I do think I want to go this way as its cheeper and more period correct for my 1964 fj40. I would love to find a pto winch but thats a little pricy and id have to find a stock exhaust manifold i think.

Id love to see more belleviews on fj40s if anyone has any pictures.

Was able to pick mine up over the weekend. Also may have tentatively struck a deal on a unimog which I am very excited about.

Everything works on the winch which is pretty cool. It was mounted on a unimog and sat in his shop for the last 10+ years.
