Did Mr T ever offer a Warn electric winch as a factory or dealer option? I know the PTO was offered for many years.

one of my FSM shows an electric winch..... does not say that it's a Warn but, it's a dead ringer for an 8274. Includes a parts breakdown too.:)

What year? Can you post a scan of the page?

Dealers began installing 8274's at buyer request after the change from three speed to four speed.

Most four speeds were shipped here without the PTO drive gear in the transfercase making PTO winch difficult (read expensive) to install, I'd imagine, and an electric winch would be a sensible replacement. (Good choice too :) )

Toyota had at least of 3 different Japanese Aisin winches available for installation on their 4x4's..... I'm not sure how many, if any, made it over to the states... Though they do have parts diagrams in the USA fische system, they all come up NLA.

The AS-450 is a light duty planetary 3300lb unit spec'd for the 80's mini trucks. I have one of these in my garage, neat little winch.

The AI-1000 is the next one up, similar to most 8k lb planetary winches.

Last (as far as I know) Ax-xxxx. An Aisin copy/redesign of the Warn 8274.

As one can imagine, these winches are very high quality, completely sealed... they make most aftermarket winches look a bit cheeeeeeseeee.

friend of mine has one in his 74...is basicly an 8274 but the controls are in the cab

Are the controls in the cab OEM or are they generic switches?

TOYOTA ELECTRIC WINCH for 40 series

here is an internal view of the electric winch by TOYOTA, this is an enhanced version of the 8274, it cost about 3500 us$ in a toyota shop :)
i've no pictures..but you can see it on EPC toyota, or at your dealer shop, on their own new EPC (parts catalog)

have a nice day !!!

I don't think that there is anything at ALL cheap about a 8274. Since parts are still available for it I'd say that it beats out the Aisin copy. You know what they "say", copying is the sincerest form of flattery!;)

most of the Aisan 8274 style electics were 24volt, but there are some 12 volt versions out there, japan is the bet bet for one, someone in Japan found one for me for $700 but he said is was beat up and told me to pass.

the remote is INSANELY expensive........like over 1K

99.9% sure the Aisan electics were never sold or offered in the USA.......the Warn was much cheaper, prolly better and an easy part to source

FYI Warn was the first US aftermarket supplier to Toyota in the USA (of any aftermarket acc). Most winches were installed at the dealer and Warn had a special "sell through" program with Toyota in Japan.

Also, in South Africa they were producing totally done up 40 Series, and other, Landcruisers.

Some were done up with huge winch bumpers, lights, lift, big tires, and all kinds of stuff.

My Dad used to be pretty high up in VW in South Africa, but now hes an alcoholic and lives in a campground :D

I'm not sure when the electric winch option was offered here in the USA. I have a 79 that has a dealer installed 8274 warn winch. There is nothing fancy about it that I can tell other than it has a red warning sticker written in white letters (English and Japanese). The owner I bought from was the second owner and he had Toyota put it on for him in the early eighties.

As far as when Toyota stop offering a pto winch in the USA, I have no idea. But I remenber while in Florida I bought a 76 or 77 with pto winch as a donor and the owner claimed it was the last year for this type of winch option in the USA. Again I have no idea but I bet it's in that time frame.

your correct 77 was the last year the OEM PTo was offered in the US

Warns were dealer or port installed or aftermarket

I agree. I worked for Toyota from 1969 until 1978 and that was the case in those years.

There was a factory installed electric winch. I guess that it was only available in certain markets outside of the US. I bought one out of a 84 fj45 troopy here in South America. If someone has parts diagram it would be great.... It's supposed to be rated at 12.000 lbs

Toyota was offering other US made accessories long before Warn winch. That included heaters, free wheeling hubs, soft tops, and Ramsey PTO winches. Have a mid sixties dealers pricing book showing what was available. It included other things like carpet kits that not sure where they were sourced.
