Trip was a bust from a truck perspective. Discovering the high boy crowd aint the cruiser types. All seem to have an edge of some sort or a wierdness. I am being polite. Glad I am not in this pool. Heading back.

There no community like the Land Cruiser/ Toyota community!! 🤷‍♂️

Reading this thread and seeing how you have helped your sons become strong, smart, independent men inspires me for how I want to raise my new son.

You're a great dad.
This about sums it up. One takeaway I have from my dad’s parenting is you need to know when to let go early and often to trust the values you’ve instilled in your kids to lead them in the right direction. Sometimes less is more. Many parents do not know how to do this. They’d rather helicopter till they make it to adulthood.

A more controversial point is allowing your kids to experience people with questionable character. People say you become what your environment is and there is some truth to that. However, if your kids only experience what is good, how will they be able to judge character for themselves? Hell I learned a lot from all the crazies I’ve met on this trip. Everything from druggies, pathological liars, and straight up jerks lol.

And yea my dad is cool. How many dads would fly halfway across the country with you to buy some pos old truck and drive back down to TX? It didn’t work out and he still managed to make the most of it. Was a great trip and time with my dad that I will never get back. Priceless.

The true gift.

Now you’ll have to pardon me, I seem to have something in my eye…

Got @ceylonfj40nut ’s FJ40 running after 6 years. Runs like a top after the rebuild and carb work.
