Oh, and watch your ass in Spokane, I think @Spook50 lives there.

(These two things may or may not be related)

I don't go for those back door shenanigans.

We hedged our bets toward Spokane and sipped the scenario along the Columbia River Gorge. One of my favorite roads to cruise. Stopped at the Bonneville Dam for a practical lesson on electromagnetism to reinforce Liam’s schooling. The power generated feeds Idaho, Montana, Northern California and Washington. The stats are Godly from mere men.

Liam understood what his new work environment would be like as a mechanical engineer. They had a desk ready for him. There is no shortage of #2 pencils in pine country.

We also got our heads around fish ladders. Apparently they love climbing. Liam got a glimpse of them swimming counter current in the fish ladder through viewing windows below.

@SipLife was pissed when he realized that I hood winked him into engineering when there were far easier professions out there…parenting 101😁.

Where is the slide rule????
Ahem. Type writer was an explanation. @SipLife did crunch some numbers though. 2 million gallons per second flows through the Columbia!

This is rad, I have never been to Bonneville. Did the Hoover tour while living in Vegas a decade ago. Honestly, I wish I would have pursued a career in power generation being from the PNW. I went the construction route, and specialize in tunnels & installation of large steel pipe in tunnels. It has been rewarding, but required lots of travel and isn't nearly as cool as dams and associated facilities. I have a classmate/roomate from university that lives in Spokane and works for Seattle City Light doing some kind of dam/facility inspections all over the state. He started in Seattle and escaped during the Covid exodus while WFH was in full swing.

@SipLife take your early years right out of university and say yes to the most challenging and difficult tasks presented to you. Seek them out. I look back on the things accomplished as a naïve 25-30 year old EIT in the tunnel construction industry with amazement and pride. Good luck with your schooling and truck search!

My mantra. Feel most alive when I am streched. Like this trip. Gave him a book.

Reading this thread and seeing how you have helped your sons become strong, smart, independent men inspires me for how I want to raise my new son.

You're a great dad.

Its been a good run. Not always rosy. Mutual learning summarizes it best.

I tell my kids (21 &19) that I’m not writing a book, it’s my first time figuring this all out too, just trying to get through it!
