A journey with my boys- The Elf Barn as I call it.

Been in the search for a good tap and die set. Did not have much success. Found this at HF. Full metric kit. Can confirm it is legit and great price. Was pleasantly surprised. Need to send my sons to college, not the snap on truck guy’s sons. Good value. Might get the SAE kit as well. The ICON stuff has surprised me each time. Lifetime warranty.

My experience in these matters is buy something based on how much you expect to use it, especially things like a tap and die set. You only use a few more intensive, it is easy and cost effective to replace them for better ones when they wear out.

Had some time to get to Brutus that’s been waiting. FJ140 build is waiting on 4x4 labs DIY kit. Wanted to get labs wings installed to see if i need to lower body mounts any. Killing time, wanting to do something different, I cut and buffed Brutus. First pic shows before. Roof and hood are beyond recovery. Turned out well enough for my needs and shortened paint scope considerably.

Also experimenting with a lump coal middle eastern grill. Like the smoked flavor it brings in food. Reconfigured the patio for fall mode. Eating and breaking bread outside most nights.

can't wait to come hang out some time.

Spent the weekend with @Cowboy45 working through a clutch replacement on Pterodactyl. He learned alot and can now do them going forward. Great time together. We had some 4 letter moments. But all good. Part of the journey. Pilot bearing was in a gnats ass. Had to chisel it out. Tried a loaf of wonder bread 😁. Stopped short of biscotti. Cold chisel. He will be buttoning up the lose ends and getting it back to DD duty to high school.

So :princess: wanted to do a project on her own to see how it pans out for a longer play for a side hustle. Adding a tiny house to the home to provide accommodation for guests. Its a shell she will finish out with trial set of trades that will help define a team for the “said side hustle”. It will get finished out with a 6’ porch and patio deck on site. Neat equipment these guys have to manipulate to move to exact location.

Got several needs for a mag drill on the builds we have going on. Going to use it on my fj140 build to upgrade 4x4labs anchor points to frame. @Cowboy45 will be putting an 80 series PS box on Old Landy. This also comes in handy when drilling holes in plates where the drill press has limits on sheet size.

Mag drills are great but please be careful. They can be wrist-breakers if the cutter really catches the material and doesn't have a sure magnetic footing. You really need a pretty flat uniform surface for them to grab. Side of a cruiser frame would be fine but the underside of a cruiser frame might be sketchy. I used to work at a shop where I would shorten medium-duty truck wheelbases (Hino, Peterbilt etc) I used to drill thousands of holes in those 5/16" -thick chassis with a mag-drill.

Hit a flea market today with the :princess:. Picked up some old school bits.
