A journey with my boys- The Elf Barn as I call it.

My son @SipLife finally joined Mud. I guess this makes our whole family Mud members. He wants to start a small business to do when he can while in high school. He will be parting out cruisers as we find them. Good small income, gains a wealth of knowledge on Cruiser/ vehicle components. Learns to stick to his word and deliver on time. We found a 91 fj80 thirty minutes from us. He will be posting parts on Mud soon. We had to get our trailer a winch set up to get rigs loaded. We made a neat box for all the electrical components inside a HF metal ammo can. @SipLife got to do some fabrication and wiring.

Cruisers are getting to be part of my boys classroom homework assignments. Math teacher challenged @SipLife to use mathematical equations to trace out a complex shape. Lesson on identifying linear and non linear equations. His tracing object of choice is a 45. @Michael B, your truck is the Inspiracion.

Temps are finally up to shoot paint. We got the temp booth rigged up to shoot base coat on @SipLife ‘s 67 Mustang. In the background Old Landy patiently awaits its turn.

@SipLife also did some parts pickin on the 80 he is parting out for DNA to live on in other cruisers.

Last weekend was a big milestone for my son @SipLife ‘s Mustang. We shot base and clear on some of the panels. Paint flowed well. So did clear. This week we plan to finish base clear on the flip side of the panels and car body. @SipLife worked hard. Very proud of him. It was hot and humid (home made sauna in a hot TX barn). He painted the trunk lid. Turned out great for first time paint job by Father/Son duo.

Also worked on the Wife’s gx470 rear bumper that seems to attract bollards and lamp posts.

Thanks for the update. I read the Elf Barn saga from page one and have been waiting on an update. I figured seeing a new acquisition recovery vehicle.

That would make quick work of Cruiser pickin for sure. Although I really enjoy windshield therapy.

We were graced by his paint excellency Yoda @CenTXFJ60 today. It was nice to have Yoda with as us one eyed minions slung paint and clear. Yoda showed my son @SipLife how to tape and wet sand. It was a great day in the presence of higher fumes :smokin:. We got all the panels done. Tomorrow we are getting at Mustang shell. Hope to be done with paint by Tue next week. This is a huge milestone for us on this journey. It’s been a tough row and rewarding, as I wished.

Then this happened yesterday😩. :princess: was driving @Cowboy45 to a tennis final. An old lady cut in at an intersection and almost t-boned them. Looks like door and running board got hit. Impact also caused a flat tire. No rim damage. No one was hurt luckily.

The bumper we touched up held up :bounce::bounce2:

Wow CD, glad to know Kavi and Keaton are ok. Looks like another paint opportunity for you guys :).

Glass half full Jim. I like your thinking. Paint on this truck is about $100 a shot glass!!!! That’s Blanton’s money right there. Those metal iridescent flakes are pricey. I could swear they took shavings of a drill press and called it “uber flakes”. Good thing is insurance is picking up the tab. Not our fault.

We finally got done with base/clear on the 67 Mustang. We moved the shell into the booth, final touches, oil ad grease swab, tack cloth. Base. Clear. Came out really well. Hung our boots up temporarily until the clear cures. Then on to wet sanding and buffing. It does not need a wet sand but the potential for a high end mirror gloss is staring us in the face. Really looking forward to assembly. It is going to free up space at the Elf Barn finally. It is amazing how much of a space hog the panels have been. The Elf Barn is also going to get a much needed housekeeping so that we can work better with a clear mind. Hope the paint fumes leave in a couple of days🤣.

Base with @SipLife taking care of a few dust nibs before clear. @SipLife has been a eagle eyed quality control manager. He has kept me on the straight and narrow. It has been a great team effort. Hard to script it. Much to savor as part of the bucket list :).
