Tonight got the HX35 compressor elbow.
Took out the HX30 super and check to make sure it’fit.

My HX30 has a Marmon flange welded on which would be nice if I could just remove it and bolt it to the HX30 Super. Also wondering if the oil return flange is the same as the HX30?

I installed a 1/8” brass pet cock valve today to remove the oscillation in the liquid filled fuel gauge.
Worked like a charm. Warming up and the gauge is 17psi. @ idle.
Got home driving 17 miles and the gauge reads 12psi. @ idle.
Reving the engine and it didn’t climb past 14psi.

The oscillating fuel gauge is because fuel pressure oscillates in the head. The piston lift pump adds pressure at a rate dictated by the cam. The injection pump either consumes it, or it's returned through the return regulator. My digital gauge oscillates a bit, no biggie. Take out the valve, just another thing to fail.
Yes the super hx30w return is the same as the hx30w. Yes, the 6 bolt flange is the same as well. I used a generic t3 flange on the chra for pressure feed, with a -6an adapter, and used ptfe fittings/line. I like that I can route the line however I want, and make it the perfect length. It's all in my thread.
Remember, the super hx30w is the same as all other hx30s, just with a different pressure feed, and a different intake size.

I do like having the valve on the fuel gauge. I know with water gauges that have the oscillation they don’t last too long. Liquid filled help but don’t always take all the oscillation away. I set the valve so the valve is closed just enough to get the gauge relatively steady without a 5 psi needle swing.

What would you rather see, the actual instantaneous pressure reading, or a "rolling average"?
The pressure will go up around 18ish during high rpm decel. Engine spinning fast, so the pump is working hard, but the injection pump isn't consuming any fuel. Hasn't been a problem for me yet, *knock on wood*, but it does happen.

I'm on the side of keeping a "snubber" like this or a needle valve in the fuel pressure line going to the gauge. It's still accurate, it just smooths out the pulses coming from the lift pump and allows one to read the value easier.

Friday night and so nice to have the rain change to snow climbing up into the Cascade Foothills on way home. Definitely my favorite time of the year.
My XS Power SuperBANK ultra capacitor showed up today.
This will be a nice addition to aid in starting the diesel down at the Crater Lake property in 0F weather.

Time for XS Power SuperBANK Ultra Capacitor installation. I bought the Ultra Cap and battery tray from JEGS. I had plenty of real estate for the Ultra Capacitor, just had to move my coolant overflow bottle. The battery tray the salesman at JEGS sold me had no mounting hardware, also was 1/4” too narrow. I used my Milwaukee fine tool to remove the lip of tray on one side to make it fit. The curvature of the inside wheel wheel dropped off too steep. Dug through my framing hardware and found a L-bracket which worked nicely.
Secured the battery tray and was ready to get the ultra capacitor installed.
Next was getting wire distance measured. Solder on terminal adapters to the wire. Run wire from battery to ultra capacitor. Hook up negative. Use vice grips and crimp positive wire to the supplied charging regulating light. When first hooked up the light is brightly illuminated but as the ultra capacitor charges the light slowly dims out when fully charged.
Remove the light and connect positive battery wire to the positive ultra capacitor terminal. Next was figuring how to reinstall my coolant overflow bottle. Modified the bracket reinstall.
Ran wire loom and zip tied the wire out of the way and was ready for startup.
I decided to take a short video of my cold start the other day to compare the difference between just a 930CCA battery startup and startup with the addition of the SuperBANK ultra capacitor.
Startup with cranking volts dropping close to 8volts.
Startup with cranking volts dropping to 10.5volts. Much smoother and stronger starting power. Now just ready for some cold arctic weather. Unlike batteries that struggle as temps get too hot or too cold, ultra capacitors are rated -40F to 150F.

you need a webasto man! i have one and it’s the best thing i’ve ever put on a diesel for winter starting. hop in after it’s run for 45 min and it blows warm air at you the minute it’s running!!

I’ve got a buddy who sells those. I was definitely thinking about one... eventually.
Going through some of my pictures on this rainy night. My first Toyota was this 85 4Runner. Great memories. Little did we know then what the future would look like now

Changed the lift pump spring I picked up from @boots4 and changed the spring today.
Idle is now 6psi. Down from 16-17psi. Took Snowball❄ for 5 mile drive and check pressure and it was down to 3psi. Drove back to shop and removed the spring in lift pump. Cut off one full loop of the original spring.
Reinstall original modified spring.
Now it’s idling at 11psi.

The Clackamas River Highway has been closed since the Riverside Fire burned the canyon in September. I took these pics at the end of July on a camp trip. Little did we know in a month it would be changed for our lifetime. Below is a pic from about the same spot from late July and today.
I was able to get access today to look at site to rebuild a water system for Timber Lake Job Corp. The pumphouse and water system were totally destroyed in the fire.
Burned pumphouse, filtration system and the generator at the site. The forest was burned worse than I even imagined. It will take generations before it looks like it’s former glory.
