I'm only on page 13 and taking my time with the story. One thing that I can appreciate is how Vince/Nathan are taking the pictures. Not only the pic quality is good but also the shots are framed so that one can understand how things are laid out in relation to each other. This is not easy to do. Usually, folks just zoom in too close or zoom out too far and the lighting is poor but in this story, pics and descriptions are well done.

Did I hear correctly, the cruise control is working? Well, this must be the first swap with a factory CC working! Very nice indeed. I'm guessing this was due to using a drive by mechanical vs DBW manifold?

Thanks! It does take time to do the pictures for sure. For just about all of our customers, we set up a google drive and upload photos regularly. That way, there is never a question of "What did you do on my truck today?" Also, a shared drive is great, because the customer could do their own build thread(if they wanted) or whatever with the pictures.

The cruise control works exactly like factory. That was one of the less difficult parts of the swap. Having a throttle cable setup did make it easier.

I wanted to ask - did the loss of the TCM impact the cruise control function or does it work with just the road speed input from the stock VSS on the t-case?

All the factory speed sensor goodies are intact. Wanted to keep a simple system simple! I honestly feel like we got lucky that the cruise control works..

We changed the GM ecm to match the trucks gearing and tire size. The ecm sees the same speed as the vehicle so the trans is pretty happy!

The tunability of the GM combo is very very nice to adjust it just how you want!

I find this entire body of work to be nothing short of amazing. You guys truly do amazing work that I would consider an art form. Thinking really hard about this for my 94...

Speaking of... Let's talk about payment options...

20 year payment plans???
Organ donations? I only need 1 kidney...
I have an ex-wife I'd be happy to box up and ship your way.

I'm tempted to take you up on the third offer, just for the novelty of the experience. EXTREME bartering.

After a 1,200mi test drive, the truck was finally delivered this past Saturday. I plan to post updates every once in a while so long term results can be tracked.

Did you guys get a chance to do the drag race?

Eww stats on the ex?! Any pics? Hahah

We didn't, which is a real bummer. We ended up spending WAY more time than expected fixing other non-swap aspects of the truck. The truck had sat for a couple of years and needed a lot of little things.

It's not much of a consolation, but the video wouldn't have been that gripping. Although a supercharged(and intercooled) 80 is peppy, the race would not have even been close.

Did you get any video? I would love to here the purr.

We did. We were not able to shoot video to the extent that I was hoping, but we'll have the truck from time to time in the future, and I hope to be able to do something a little more complete and professional. Here's a brief video of the exhaust note.

One nice aspect of the swap was that it made the cabin quieter. Just about any 80 I've come across that had something other than Bosal(aftermarket stock style replacement) or Toyota exhaust had some pretty serious resonance inside. When this truck was running a performance stainless exhaust and a supercharged 1FZ, the exhaust note was somewhat "ricer" and there was some resonance inside the cabin. With the LQ9, it was quiet at idle and moderate throttle, but when you got on it, it sounded just as gnarly as you would hope.

I can atest to its lack of resonance and great sound in person. That thing almost sounds like a stock truck with a very mild cat back, obviously not an 80 but like a Chevy would. And great exhaust work too, you cant even see any of it hanging out.

SCHWIIIIIINGGGGGGGG!!!

Forget the exhaust note (not my favorite muffler on there), I'm drooling over the toque/rev induced body role!! :D
