So my transfer case will shift fine but will not stay in HI or Lo ,I took out the spring and detent ball and its all there,I feel the slight tension but will not stay in gear, is there more than one detent i used my fsm to see am I missing something

Is the transfer case in the truck or on the bench? I remember when removing my transfer case on a 1994 FZJ80, there were instructions on whether to be in Lo vs Hi. At any rate, there’s a fork inside the case that moves between gears for hi vs lo.

Also might check the shift linkage. That’s the best place to start.

Oh its out of the vehicle and I see the detent but feels soft

There is only one detent. If the ball bearing looks fine, the shaft could be worn or the spring could be the issue. There really isn't much else to it when I recently regeared a TC.
