I was wondering how the transmission behaves in 4low with the 6l80. Are the shift points rough, at the rmp’s For shifting off or pretty good? I know it’s been mentioned that people are just using the tiptronic but it would be good to just stay in drive while in low range.

This leads into my next question, has anyone used Silverado/Sierra as a doner with part time 4x4 and got two shifting programs working, one for high range and one for low? I’m assuming this signal would go from the transfer into the Bcm. There may be no chance this could work but thought i’d see as low range is an important part of my 80’s use and I haven’t got a doner yet. Thanks.

I didn't go with manual hubs. I did the 7 pin mod so 4wd is fully controlled with my dash switch. The lockers just won't lock unless the 4lo switch is kicked in. My center diff lock light doesn't come on in the dash when I press the center diff lock button, only cpme on when I go into 4lo but doesn't turn the center diff lock on.

Edit: nevermind, I didn't read fully.

I'd figure out that CDL light/switch. You can get a replacement on amazon for something like $13, and changing it only requires lowering the crossmember.

I haven't heard of anyone getting dual mode working, and haven't looked at the GM diagrams closely enough to tell if it's just one wire or the GM transfer case has its own module that needs constant communication with the BCM.

That said, my 6L80 acted great with the regular shift pattern in low. Whatever gear you are in in D, if you pull the lever to Manual it'll hold that gear, unless you start going too slow at which point it will downshift. then, yes, there are the tap shifting switches. They are a bit laggy but I specifically remember thinking it was a world of improvement over the toyota transmission and shift pattern.

Also, don't forget that the 6L80 has a very low first gear. Some of what you had to be in Low for can be done in High now. As mentioned, I did almost all of Imogene pass in Colorado in high range. It was crazy.
 
Thanks Bloc. I figured if anyone had any idea about this it would be you. Staying in Hi most of the time also makes a lot of sense. I have a wrangler that I almost never need to put in low due to the extra power. It also seems that the simpler you keep the conversion the quicker and easier it will go.

I have included the bcm in my LC9/6L80 swap along with the cluster, (it fits decent in the 80 dash) I plan to use an arduino to supply the needed signal on the can bus for low range signal, it works on the jeep swaps so I signed on. Stay tuned this winter....

Yeah, I was about to say I just spent some time checking my spreadsheets and EWDs for both the escalade as well as a regular Gm pickup.. there is no direct "4Lo" wire to the BCM, only to the ECM. Now, it may be possible that the ECM then passes the different shift pattern request along to the TCM via GMLAN..

It looks like there is now a Black Box for the HF2A transfer case - I would guess this shouldn't have a problem with the HF2AV either since they are the same except the VC, right? At $1,749 this seems to me to be a pretty cost effective way of adapting a GM trans to the Toyota TC. What I would really like to do is run a NP436, SM420, or SM465 (in that order of preference) with the Black Box as a double/adapter.

I looked into that setup. Required a 4wd trans to start off with not a 2wd like the advance adapter kits. I Had a 2wd. Add 3 cable shifters and driveshaft mods... adds up quickly but what a sweet set up when done. Next one gets a black box
 
Crossmember mods would be pretty small potatoes for anyone doing one of these swaps
 
Anyone using a Toyota transmission? I just bought an 80 series with a TBI Chevy 350 mated to the stock Toyota running gear.
 
Bloc, we should work on an arduino option cure for the low speed bus signals, I'll be needing some od that with my LC9/6L80e BCM, GM cluster swap.
 
The Gen 4 engine/6l80 was avail with a manual transfer case, that used a simple switch wired to the E38 exam to signal lo range.... We should be able to reflash the ecm for that T/C.
To get the low range shift schedule to work.
 
Sounds like a great idea but my rig will probably be sold before I have time to mess with the low speed bus.

Plus I'm happy with how the transmission acts in low range even if the ECM/TCM don't signal the different schedule.

I've got the engine sitting as high and far to the left as I can as I'm trying to clear the transmission pan with the stock driveshaft. I don't want a big lift on this truck. Not going to use the engine cover.

I'll put the hood on and check clearance before I burn the mounts in, but I'm pretty sure it will fit.
