Just got a 3rz to manual bell housing and manual Ecu from a buddy in Chicago.

Are you gonna remove counter-balance shafts?

No. I don’t know why I would. I’m hoping not to break open the motor. It’s gonna be really hard for me.

Taking stuff off the 3rd gen. I'm really struggling leaving the motor alone. I'm losing the struggle. Took the valve cover in to work yesterday. Ran it through the jet wash, baked it in the oven, ran it through the shot blaster, tumbled it, washed it again, blew it all out, painted it in wrinkle finish. Got a new PCV grommet and ordered PCV valve, and a gasket with spark plug seals.

48 hour wait time to handle, so Friday I'll file the paint off the T.

Took the intake off tonight to take in tomorrow.

Valve cover was fine. It didn't leak. PCV worked. I guess I would have taken it off to check the valve clearances.
Motor looks good inside.

That Valve cover looks prime. Will you clean up the intake manifold as well? Since your nearly there now.

Intake and exhaust is coming to work with me today. The head and block look pretty good. Just some wire brushing, I think.

Motor is just sitting on the mounts. I wasn’t feeling getting the hoist out last night.

Exhaust got shot blasted, painted with 1200 degree satin clear. Cured it in the oven so hopefully it'll last. The heat shield came off in on piece too, so it's not like it'll be visable at all.
Intake got washed, baked, washed again and then painted with the wrinkle finish.

Took the 4skinner for a last 22re blast around the woods. Turned over 235000 miles, so I have a nice even number to start the new re-power.

I'm curious what the over-all width (Intake to exhaust) difference is between the 2?

Not much. Exhaust is very similar. Intake has the same shape. The balance shafts make the block wider.

Motor out. Needs cleaning. Lots of parts to get cleaned too.

It's a 2000, so the marlin 3fz thread says it's a COP with a very simple harness. But it's a non-CA model, so it's not. The rest of us got the 1999 version one more year. Also, that thread is about wheeling trucks. They seem to cut out cruise control and AC, both of which I'd like to have. So I don't know how much interior harness I need.
So I took most of it.

Does this have an engine harness that integrates to the cowl harness? How much of the cowl harness is used on the engine?

That’s the big question. On the first gen 3rz, it’s a lot. You need the under dash fuse box, for instance. On the 3rd gen it’s a lot less. Mine is 2nd and an overlap year.

don't forget to adjust the valves, the exhaust side tends to tighten up over time. can you share a picture of the ECU? you may have seen my swap thread liveoaks 3RZ swap

Interesting. I am probably re-powering in the long run, but have coil-over towers to contend with now...

After setting the intake and exhaust on and putting a tape to it, the 3rz is about 3.5 inches wider.

All on the intake side, I would guess.
