Haha you don't want me to paint it. I just took it down to bare metal with a da sander sprayed it with self etching primer and then put down the paint with automotive paint loaded into spray cans by Tower Paint. Sprayed it over a weekend since it was already stripped and had no glass in it, turned out well for what it was, and I was quoted $8-11k by the shop IPOR used and at the time they were having trucks sit in paint for 8 months.

I was told between $6-22k. Haha.

$6k gets a much better quality than OE and, according to body guy, fits my "7 out of 10" since I'm going to be driving if.

The $$$$ paint jobs are unreal.

He's actually not going to paint. Most of the restorers here outsource paint to a well known guy whose shop I built east of Tulsa a ways, a few years back. An average paint job from Willy costs $25k and takes six months. Does 6-7 a year, max.

I've got so much to do before now and then, I'm not even worried about, but supposedly he has a guy that can paint the LX for $2,500 if I pull the glass and re-install. Only have to pull the front and rear so I may consider.

OE paint is just as strong as liner when caressing boulders.

Haha yeah that is crazy! Especially considering for me, my 55 was just something I picked up to take camping.

Not to mention the shops I have seen I wouldn't say the employees are the professionals that earn that big money. I specifically told them I didn't want any body work done, just paint. Oh well. You will have to cross that bridge when you get there, but don't you have a 55 and an 80 to paint? ;)

Yes, but neither in dire need now.

The 55 is easily a year away and I quit giving a chit about what my neighbors think of my white primer hack job spray over the welds on the LX.

Was waiting to see if it rubbed and it doesn't to move forward. Already have new weatherstripping for front and rear glass, new sill trim for side windows, new sunroof (since I can't sell) and new door seals.

If I could sell the OE glass for eBay prices, I'd order all new, clear glass and solid cargo windows, along with windshield (which I need and will probably get chipped the first week. OK is great about that) and rear glass.

Have to pull handles, so tear into doors again and wishing I hadn't done the FatMat or I'd pull interior and shoot lizard skin deadener and ceramic.

Since pulling interior, be a good time for tunes...

It's never ending.

Nice!

My wife thought I was watching a porn clip thanks to the music in the second Akrilo video.

You still putting white liner on it?

Had to go back and make sure I didn't post the wrong video.....

Not heard much Phish in porn, but not a porn aficionado either.

Thinking about painting.

Liner won't protect from dents and fifteen years down the road it'll be easier to patch rusty panels in.

OE front and rear?

OE Axle Housings
OE Axle Shafts
OE Birfs
OE....well, everything, except the ARP hub and wheel studs, along with the 5.29 gears.

If it could fit in the freezer, it did, but only real departure.

Edited: As soon as CDan gets my email, will be back to running OE studs, since those on for the sixteen years prior to swapping to the uncoated/unplated ARPs rusted less than these have in six months, and IH8RUST more than IH8MOSTEVERYTHINGELSE.

When I shear the studs on the rear, going to 105 studs and dowels, with the assistance of Dr. Azeri...again, stronger OE.

That whole Dr. Azeri has a nice ring to it.

If you were only as hot as the IPhone contact photo I have saved.....

In the spirit of Cruiser Karma, and all.

Sold a perfectly good brake booster, retrospectively stated, after installing a new OE, to Mudder Alberto SD some time ago.

My memory sucks and the fact that I wear many hats on a daily basis, none if which seem to fit right, make it difficult to recall everything, and had all but forgotten, until Alberto PM'd a "thanks" and "it's installed" yesterday.

Started digging and the rig it went on is entirely too cool not to post pics of, considering the organ donor status my PP80 played. Haha.

New OE TRE's to replace the RAF (acronym for "Rusty as ....") 555s, because ih8rust more than ih8mud...

Will update earlier post to reflect. Post merely a reminder.

Thanks, Señor beno.

Left the rainforest of the Yucatan Peninsula...,

View attachment 790785

Only to return to the rainforest of Oklahoma. Flash Flood Warnings are as odd as Blizzard Warnings this time of year in OK.

My kids were on point, searching for a Mexican Land Cruiser and never to be found, but FJCs are as common on the east coast of Mexico as they are in Tulsa, which is every third vehicle.

An acquaintance, who's 49 with a newborn (pretty much, a partier his entire life, just now settling down) whose been to every party point in Mexico said that every time he'd been, he'd seen a dead man, almost like a vacation curse.....well, it held true for us, too, seeing a gnarly crash in a Jeep, no less, leaving one occupant on the Mexican version of dawn's highway (307??) deceased.

Luckily, the kids didn't see.

I have a story to tell regarding many aspects of the trip, mostly musings from my ignorant observations.

I've delayed recounting my travel observations due to this, since it was primarily humorous laced with philosophical content, ala redneck (which I am in geographical area, only) style, plus the lack of Tech content, but hopefully can work past it and not include, since all funny chit.

115,707

Tire rotation
Knuckle and drive shaft lube
Oil and filter change Mobil 1 Synthetic
Tranny drain/fill Mobil 1 ATF
Changed all diffs, Mobil 1 75-90.

The center and rear were as crystal clear as the last swap, but the front was gray and the drain plug had a mushy, clutch like matter clinging to it.

Not sure what that indicates. 5.29s now have ~5,900 miles on them, yet after the initial two changes of no such observation, unsure of what's up.

Swapped the rusty 555s for OE ball joints at all ends.

No matter the orientation of one, be it on a lift or on the ground, the other is in a bind, as far as I've been able to determine. Noticeable now after a few miles.

Swapped the ARP studs out for OEs, too, and trimmed the lug nuts. Be hunting a closed lug to conceal the hack job that became.

DO NOT INSTALL ALL WHEEL STUDS BEFORE FIRST CHECKING FITMENT as I did, forcing a surgery, like this. Winds up looking like chit.

image-1600393180.jpg

Reason for stud swap was breaking one while tightening after checking wheel bearings a few weeks back (due to slop in steering that turned out being a nut missing on frame side front panhard. I replaced that, too, and checking all more regularly, since it'd be gone over before last trip out). but upon removal of these, several decided they weren't happy about the eviction and tried hanging on for dear life.

New starter, as well. Last one hung on for a month past what it should've, but finally crapped out, forcing the hand on this round of wrenching.

The 555s are slightly different in engagement, and even though all was measured accurately, still have to re-rack.

Guess when you beat on them hard enough, craps bound to happen, but second time the panhard bolt has come loose on the front DS mount, and several rear link bolts were looser than they should've been.

Will update the previous post with part numbers.

Listening to any input on the front diff fluid. It was obviously metallic, yet didn't feel gritty, so concerned, but not sure how much I ought to be.

The non-gritty metallic goo describes exactly what I found on my front diff drain plug at last service. 158k miles on original R&P, 10k miles since last fluid change. Seemed odd to me, but this is my first solid axle rig with birfs, so I just assumed it was normal and I am a SFA n00b.

Normal front diff drain. It will always be darker than the rear.

It will always be darker than the rear.

So many directions I could take that.

Almost feel set up, like its bait.

Bahahaha.

Gotcha. Looked liked how clutches used to come out of the quad, but no cause for alarm, it sounds.

Thanks.

Edited: clunk wound up being the very thing I'd posed to devildigcruiser to check.

Slider foot pounding on the DS floor pan.

Very hard to replicate the conditions, since hard to flex the body, but manipulated and had since ceased.

As good as she gets.

The front axle is a 1/4" to PS, rear 1/8" to PS, but can't get that minor of an adjustment out of the panhards.

Still feels a little dartier than before the TRE swap.
