I tried the 100 series fad, what a pain...put 80 series back on.....brakes like a boss now!

I'm not a fan of people putting up Christmas decorations in October.

I agree. I’m not a fan of the 100 series pad use.

This is my way of cleverly saying "why the heck are you not a fan?" Can you add to this discussion?

I went with 100 series front pads and new oem 80 rotors two years ago at the recommendation of CDan. Their fit was ever so slightly snug, but they fit without the shims. No grinding or pounding required, just a bit of effort. I've been very happy with them and intend to go with 100 series pads again when the time comes. I will say that every so often, about once a week, I will get a bit of minor brake squeel. It isn't much, but it's there. I would attribute it to not having the shims installed, though I don't know that for certain. Next time I'll set the shims aside (rather than throwing them away) and install them at the next tire rotation. Even if it didn't make a difference, I'd still run the 100 pads.

Agree that they work, just installed a set and have installed many in the past. Fit is not great, overhang the inside of the rotor, etc. The only advantage is slightly longer life, IMHO, not worth it, pads are dead simple to change, so my first choice is the proper pads.

Agreed, pad life is the one and only benefit. I run them on my truck just because and on my wife's truck so I don't have to look at the brakes as often.

Can’t fit them by less than a milk meter and the shims are already glued to the pads, any suggestions?

You need to sand them down

Remove the shims, if possible. They should've come detached. I tossed mine, but in retrospect wish I'd kept them to install after the pads had worn down a bit.

I have 46K miles on my brake job thus far for front and rear. 100s in front and 80 rear.

See previous post for details.

I believe the 100 series DO last longer (at least they do on mine). I've never had any trouble installing them, they are a 'snug' fit but install fine.

Added bonus....is I can keep one set of pads around that will fit either my 80 or 100 series.

Grab one of the little wrap-around tabs on the backer with pliers and bend/pull until the backer starts to lift off. Easy.

THIS MOD MAY OR MAY NOT WORK ON YOUR CRUISER! It did not work on my '96. In fact , this experiment was an abject failure, despite the glowing reviews on Mud. It squealed like a stuck pig the whole time, and warped the rotors. It is costing me an extra 250 clams over and above the price of the original brake job to have the ill effects of this nonsense reversed...

One thing you cannot say is that you have not been warned.

Ran a couple of sets of 100-series pads. Slight bit more hassle to install, but not much. Seemed to last longer, but definitely not any better stopping performance (w/OEM pads).

Ultimately, I just went back to 80-series pads purely because it's just a bit easier to deal with. Simple is good.

Did you do the work yourself or pay someone else?

Did you supply the parts?

What parts (brands and types) were supplied?

i replaced my front with Centric Fleet Performance Brake Pads and it was night and day. i can now lock up all 4 wheels when braking hard, before I would brake super early to stop...
