Hey fellas,

Tons of updates.
Opened my tool box for the first time. Yikes. Lots of cool old replaced ignition bits in there.

Cut the floor out, POR 15 the channels:

Made a new floor out of some 16 gauge scrap I had laying around.
Also, sheared up some .187 thick steel for a sturdy new back wall, runs all the way across.

New cross support bar ends.

Welded the semi-repaired tool box back in. I also rolled up the cross arch that goes over the trans tunnel.

Coated the new floor in primer so it could sit around for a week until i could get back to it.

Started my least favorite part (Messy!)

Base prime and block sanding. (I used a 2k aerosol grey primer - 2K is the best)

It's fairly straight considering all the spot welds and mistakes I made, that needed sorted in each quarter.

The passenger side faired way better than the driver's side.
I just keep telling myself - it's a 50 year old truck, this is just a save not a frame off!

After 3 coats of the 2k aerosol.

2 more hours of block sanding...

Meanwhile I painted the tail gate.

Not half bad!

Last weekend I laid paint down on the car.

I had a local shop auto paint color match 5 aerosol cans. Worked.... OK. It's a decent match, but doesnt look dead on like Freeborn.

Kinda looks like s***, but I am also thrilled with how far it's come.
I think a wet sand will help freshen it up a lot... But I also don't want it too nice!

The front is still OG paint!

Here's the tub - with the matching raptor liner in the front.

Super happy with that!

Cut up some gasket material for the new seat sliders.

IMG_9455.jpeg

Drilled the holes and added gaskets to the tail gate...

The water jet at my work is down for the next 2 months, when repaired I will cut some cleaner looking seals up.

Definitely a ton of progress.
For a good comparison, here is the truck when I bought it just over a year ago.

And the truck now!

Lots to do, but it looks like a 40.

Thanks for reading.

Impressive update!

Hi guys,
Made up some seat sliders for the drivers seat. Previously, the old (crappy) seat was held into the toolbox lid with 2 #12 self tappers. Real secure :p

As such, the driver's seat sat about 3" lower than the passenger - which was basically flush to the .25" sliders on the gas tank.
These new brackets are 2" steel square tube, .125" wall - also made a .125" seat base and reused some old sliders.

Mounted to the 7/16-20 bungs on the car, will run my lap seat belts from these too as intended. The front mounts were drilled through the floor and through the U channel flange, giving a nice thick spot to anchor into.

Nice and even with the passenger seat now.

I love the look!

Pretty confident these are the only OE Porsche seats in a 40 .... sans maybe any Recaro LS or similar - which don't exactly count.

I have to park her outside for a few weeks (while hopefully still squeezing in some work) to get a customer car inside.

Next on the list:
-Gas tank. Currently soaking it muriatic acid. will be lining with POR15 tank coat.
-New fuel lines.
-Pop the doors off and fix the rust.
-Order more cans of the same paint I used for the doors and top.
-Split the top apart, get a new rain gutter and seal, rivet in.
-repair the rest of the rust on the side panels, paint
-finish the ambi door conversion.
-await tags.

Down the road:
-OE steels
-Rubber floor/bed mats.
-Suspension refresh
- Drive it???

I don't know why but those Porsche pasha seats really look good in a 40. You could take your 40 to a PCA event and really make some Porsche purist scratch their heads. You are doing some great work, I am enjoying watching your build.
