I’m trying to replace the low speed output gear in my transfer case. Cannot get the shaft and gears out. I have tried heat and penetrating oil. I can’t get a puller on the bearings in front of the low speed gear, just no space. I don’t have a press, not sure that’s the answer. Can anyone give me some advice?

@Coolerman provided an excellent step-by-step process, including pictures, on how to rebulid a 3 speed transfer case.

I recommend reviewing this for guidance on what may help you with your predicament.

If this doesn't help, then it provides a great reference to further explain your situation.

You might need a different bearing puller. You need to get that bearing off after you take the shift housing and flange off. After you take the shift fork off, you should be able to move the whole assembly far enough out of the case to get a puller on the bearing. Once the bearing is off, the smaller high speed gear will slide out and then you can drive the shaft out. I did this recently on my '69 and without a press. I can take a pic of the puller I used if needed.
