Nice. I’ll give em a look. These were a $4 purchase at Ace Hardware in the bolt aisle. (Where I spend my free time - haha) Plan on implementing a better system down the road. These are the “get the damn thing running version”

yea check out those style of battery cable terminals.... you'll have more options and better connections with them. (apparently called military style or something similar)

Kinda been a boring couple weeks. Routing lines, wiring, clean up, etc. Bought some fluids.

Filled up the motor. Then discovered a leaky water pump. So that was lame.

Installed new water pump

Switched on ignition to prime fuel lines and look for leaks. Of course there was. The fuel filter / regulator was faulty.

So had to buy a new one of those.

Then a little magic happened.

Congrats Dude, that first start up never gets old!!

Thanks. Its been a long road. You can actually see my hands are shakey in the beginning of vid clip. Footage is slighty jittery. Not sure if it was nerves or adrenaline. Pretty excited. Had a beer right after to celebrate!

Guess next on the list is exhaust. Any suggestions for what sounds good on a Vortec FJ. I know that is a loaded question and that every make of car will sound a bit different with the same muffler.

I want it to sound mean - but not loud enough to wake the neighbors 3 blocks away. Maybe just my block. Heh. :grinpimp: Preferablly not raspy when ya rev it and a healthy sounding rumbler. Something that doesnt drone your ears out. Flowmaster, Magnaflow, Spintech, etc.

Also I’m running Cats on this. I know most people go 2 to 1 pipe out the back. Reasoning why there arent many with 2 pipes out back?

Also heard of no mufflers and running just the cats. But pretty sure that leads to a raspiness.

Anyways - suggestions welcome

Check out @Str8Razor thread i made the exhaust on his 60 true dual exhaust with h pipe does have flowmaster mufflers and high flow cats 2 1/2 all the way out made out of .120 seamed steel tubing its over kill but my tubing bender and exhaust tubing dont work out well...

Because most of us prefer the stock look, and it's sufficient, so no need to redneck it up.

2 pipes is redneck these days? Man I got to get with the times. Haha. I get the keep the stock look to it - even though nothing about the build is stock or redneck for that matter.

Guess the question should of been is there any benefit sound wise.

Mufflers

No personal experience with these but I hear good things. I kinda wanted to try one out but couldn't justify the expense when there is a pretty new flowmaster on mine. The flowmaster isn't super loud in my opinion but if I was starting from scratch I might try one of these

If you do true dual exhaust you need the H pipe to make the tone of the exhaust sound appealing

I think my pics are gone, I am going to refresh it and update the thread...maybe tonight if I get lubricated enough...need to re upload all the pics to the mud server...

I know I’m not finished with this project by any means. But figured now is as good a time as any to tip my hat to all the amazing people that have helped me with this build. The Ih8mud community really is a pretty unique group of people. Its amazing how much the community helps their own and newcomers like myself.

While the build was a solo mission for the most part, it felt like I had a garage full of people backing me through thick and thin. No one more so than @FJ60Cam. I simply cant thank him enough. Any question (big or small) he was there. Thanks for taking me under your wing Cam!

I hope one day I can do the same for anyone new to the process or at least shed some light on all those first timer questions that will undoubtedly come up.

I’ll be posting post details on all the little stuff I’ve skipped over or simply didnt have time to go into as the build continues. Im sure theres plenty i skimmed over. Believe me when I say - I understand how important these threads are for not just newbies, but for everyone. They are invaluable - as are the people behind them.

Wiring old Harness / misc wiring to get motor running for me was confusing. Looking back its pretty simple.... but heres the details. Maybe it will help someone.

Guess I should mention I’m utilizing a Howell Harness and ECM. Ordered it through @FJ60Cam He took care of it and made sure they were dialed in for this motor. Made it simple. I’d highly recommend utilizing Cam for any of the services / parts / builds he supplies. He is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to these trucks.

———————————

Wires I’m utilizing off old harness

Driver Side
——————-

-Coolant Temp Sensor Wire
-Brake Fluid Resevoir Plug
-Headlight, Blinkers, Horn

Passenger Side
——————-
- + Harness Terminal Wire / Wires
-Coil + Wire
-Washer Fluid Reservoir Plug
-AC Compressor Wire
-Starter Wire
-Charcoal Canister Plug
-Activated Reverse Light Plug
-Transfer Case Plug
-Oil Pressure Sender Wire
-Headlight, Blinkers, Horn

Coming off The old FJ + terminal I had one wire that linked / spliced into 3. Red, Black, & White.

White wire was about 12” long and ran to alternator lug. I deleted the white wire.

Red & Black run through Firewall. Kept both.

Here is old alternator. The Lug and red capped plug house 4 wires total - (including the white one mentioned above. I deleted all of them.

The red & Black were soldered to a single fusible link and ran to the + batt terminal.

Next up is full time power to fuse block. Ran the wire to the Vortec Alternator Lug. Pretty sure this could be ran to a power block if your motor has one or directly to battery.

Next I cut off old harness Coil + clip & soldered blue wire on to run through my firewall to be utilized as my switched 12V power at fuse block.

Tied blue wire into pink inside cab.

- Starter -
Simply utilize old FJ harness starter wire / tie in and route to new Vortec Starter. (If I dont have a picture I will - away from motor at moment)

- AC Compressor -

The Vortec has a two wire plug that goes to the AC Condensor. Green & Black wires. Green ties into the old FJ AC Compressor harness wire. Black gets grounded.
