You really do not require that entire upper assembly. That is part of the automatic pedal adjustment system from the donor vehicle. It can all be cut down to this. :)

Now someone tells me. Haha. Well that would save a lot of headache mounting. All that garbage up top likes to hang up under dash unless perfectly placed. May have to reassess my pedal now.

"The things I did not know at first I learned by doing twice" Unknown

You did it though, a whole lot more than most :)

Mounted battery. Had some issues trying to find a battery tray that would fit. My radiator is pretty damn wide so I needed something that would be narrow and be able to bolt to front end of fender well and the front of the truck somehow. Tried a few different ones and was just about ready to Fab one up when I came across this guy.

The Battery tray may not be that big of an Issue if you dont have a huge radiator and limited room. For me it was. So I’m excited about it.

Possibilities are endless now that I have some juice.

When you’ve had a FJ with no AC for 5 years ya get ear to ear grins when laying out a AC System.

After the 3rd air intake system I think I found an Airaid that will work. It’ll need a few mods but doable.

Is that an AC kit that you put together, or did you buy it ?

Putting it all together piece by piece, fitting by fitting. I’ll have to go to local hose shop to have the hoses crimped properly once i get everything to right lengths and exactly how I need it.

Airaid system looks pretty good. Which one did you go with?

I went with AID-201-145

Few things - First you’ll have to build a cold air box. I dont think any of these over the counter intakes will have an out of the box solution for that.

Second - you’ll need an extra rubber adapter ro run MAF inline where filter hits tubbing.

Third - the filter is huge. I may trim a small section of the inner fender to run the tip underneath

So it seems like you are fabbing a lot of stuff yourself, so why go with the Airaid instead of going for silicone turbo piping and building an appropriate intake tube to where you want it to go?

Gonna be up in the So. Lake area this weekend camping at Fallen Leaf. BeBe (my 60) will be doing gear hauling duty to the campground, silver/gray with tan tailgate and NV blue plates FJ6TY, if you happen to see her.

Yeah the box has to be Fabbed anyway ya cut it. Really just need an adapter. The Airaid sustem assumes you have the boot off the original vehicle for MAF. So need that. Could definetly make your own system I guess. Just figured this may be easier. Time will tell here shortly.

I’ll keep an eye out for your rig. You’re a brave man coming to South Lake in August. Construction and Tourists = Never ending traffic. Fallen Leaf will be nice tho - once you get there. Haha.

Oh yeah well aware. Figure that it shouldn't be tooooooo bad with school starting just about everywhere this week or previous week and not being a major holiday. Construction, well that is like the Nevada State Flower being the road cone, just something we are used to.

Your rig isnt sitting on 37s with a LT1 in it by chance? Met a guy that had a gray/silver 60 at the gas station a few months ago in Reno. Cant remember his name for life of me. Figure can’t be that many built 60s in Reno. Only other one I’ve seen is tan and is lurking in Carson City. That one may be a 62. Cant remember.

Mounted the new AC drier. Not many spots left for it. Looks like it’ll be ridding inside the cold air intake box. Guess my AC will be really cold. :hmm:

Tight fit with hoses. Damn radiator takes up the entire front stretch.

Drilled two holes for trans cooler lines so I have more room for lines from my AC condensor. Need to throw some rubber groms on em.

Mounted Gas pedal computer in a tucked away spot. Try and get a drill in there. Lemme know how fun it is.

Need a little touch up paint around old firewall boots. Eye sore.

Negative... I think that is the guy that own Great Basin Outdoor (have seen in a number of times with stickers on the window) which is an outdoors hunting guide company if I remember correctly. There is another silver one that is owned by the guy who owns "Just Brew It" here in carson. His is silver with an LT1 in it but thought we was only running 33s, maybe 35s. Haven't seen his truck in a while so could have changed it.

The tan one you are thinking of in Carson is actually Dr. John, lifted and built 62 that has plates FJ62 on it. From what I know it is all stock drivetrain with a bunch of armor, roof rack and 3" lift with 35s. Actually lives not too far from me.

Mine is pretty much stock other than a small lift and 31s. Run Aussie mirrors with Hella yellow spots in front and a bike tray on top. Don't really hit south lake all the often in it as normally if I ride (main mtb hauler) then I am up in North Lake or with buddies in their vehicles. The reason most people do engine swaps is because the stock 2F has a 0-60mph of about 2wks. LOL

Evaporator, Drier, Condensor & Expansion valve can all be had at partsgeek.com. As for hoses and fittings you kinda have to piece em together. Theres plenty of online stores thay sell AC fittings to do so. Price? Guessing about $500. But most people wont need a new condensor which runs about $130 if I remember correctly and Unless you’re doing a swap you don’t necessarily need all the adapters / 134s and new fittings. Guessing about $250 if ya just want cold AC in a stock FJ. Less if ya dont buy a new evaporator.

Of course if you aren’t running 134 ya still gotta find R-12 to recharge. Thats kinda like getting your hands on enough plutonium to create a nuclear reaction to generate “1.21 Gigawatts needed to power the flux capacitor” of a DeLorean these days. :grinpimp:

I should also add I have a 2004 vortec 5.3. I installed in 2013. I'm just worried about my evaporator needing to be replaced. When I disconnected the ac lines I capped the fittings for the evaporator and the comdensor. I just worried that the vapor valve in the evaporator may be bad because the R12 locked out decades ago. But I have been busy with so many other projects in life to get it taken care of. If viper valve is good I should need the follow items to set up for 134a system:
1) compressor
2) dryer
3) hose that have Toyota fittings and Chevy on the other side for the evaporator and the condenser
