Yeah, OK.

Hey now, don't be taking the comment out of context. I'm talking the ls swap vs 1fz-fe upgrade in the fzj80 specifically. And I'm just having fun. Ls swaps done well are really nice. Done poorly they aren't.

Do you work for the mainstream media? ;)

I was doing some light reading and came across something from Nostradamus that stated a 1fz-fe with a turbo and a750 transmission would make an LS swap obsolete.

This would be VERY interesting!
Georg is a bit more reliable than those jerks at northwestfab who claimed the doubler is right around the corner.

I'd love a 750f in the cruiser.

One thing to keep in mind is the 750 pan is much wider. With an hf2av, getting a CV front driveshaft in there is a challenge. Toyota stock CV will not fit when stuffed.

Well that sucks!! can the pan be modified so it will fit?

Not easily. Maybe a teensy bit of trimming of the lip but I wouldn't bother.

A 1310 CV is a bit smaller at the H yoke where the interference is worst, and barely fits depending on the casting. This is the only option if you insist on a CV at the t case. Be prepared to do a little cleanup with a flap wheel.

If you can set it up acceptably, my recommendation would be to part time and stick to a single cardan front DS.

No, my rigs works great.. but I like the transmission in my Tundra!
No big deal!

For the part time folks, we can just use the OEM (non CV) front DS if the A750 is going in, no? That should afford some clearance.

Can you expand on this a bit? If using a a750f along with the hf2a from a 100 series, is it because of the compression of the axle on an 80 series that causes the issue? Where on a 100 series the driveshaft stays in place? Or is it due to actually using an hf2av which has different spacing than the hf2a?

As far as I know, the AV version has a fatter tailpiece for accommodating the viscous coupling. But, that's at the wrong end (that's what she says) and shouldn't interfere (that's what he says).

Email from 1/30/2020:

Rodney here from Wholesale Automatics,

We are in fact developing a 5 Speed A750F kit to go into the 80 series 1FZ. This is being done so a customer can simply use the 100 series 2UZ V8 automatic that is fairly cheap to pick up. Rear housing is the same so the transfercase will bolt straight up. We already have the stand-alone transmission controller to suit so we are all good there. Here in Australia we also already the Tip Tronic T.bar and centre console assembly to suit and we are sure we can make a Left-Hand Drive version of this same consol. We already have the Left-Hand Drive shifters available.

We are going to make our own bell housing to suit reusing the 2UZ V8 torque convertor on the 1FZ as we think that will be compatible.
This is as far as I have come with this conversion so far. We have the same transmission in 80 series here in Australia that we have done the conversion for but they were all Diesels. We are now on to the 1FZ.

F/U reply to questions about availability date and expected price:

We are only just at the beginning of the development, so I don’t have any accurate answers for you as yet. It will take me most of the year to finish the development and test it.
That’s all I have for you so far sorry.

Regards
