Hello everyone,

I am looking for a BJ40 vin or frame number chart. I saw it once and can't find it again. I have a 1975 BJ40 here in Costa Rica I am the 3rd owner. I have had the registration research from the original purchase in November of 1974 to date and the national registry has never included the frame or vin number. It just reads "No Aplica" I have gone to the OJI or FBI here and researched it and there are no investigations past or current on the vehicle. it appears there was some minor repair to the frame area on the right where the vin would be stamped and the last two digits are missing

The frame number is BJ40-0003??

I have looked for any other numbers and found my engine plate and the

Engine number is 0050328

So my question is does anyone know How to find the frame number by cross-referencing the engine number ????? Where I would go to do that ?

Cool site !!! Thanks for your replies

I think I talked with someone before on this and can't remember the answer but I have a 1963 FJ40L but the VIN plate has 2-FJ40-15276 stamped on it as well as the matching engine number, so is this truck a 62 or 63?

Vin: FJ40-301274
Build date: 02/79
Frame vin matching
Engine vin: 2F 351050

Originally owned in Colorado. Found and purchased by motoloco
79' cabin find progress pics
Then owned by Boulder Cruiser, who I traded a mildly built 94 fzj80 for it in 2009.
Feeler Built 79 FJ40 Trades?

Earliest pic of it:

Vin plates are removable. But yeah, if the vin stamped into the frame begins with a "2" then you can be absolutely certain that Toyota manufactured that vehicle as a 1962 model, no matter what any state's Department of Motor Vehicles title or registration might show. No doubt.

I guess I wasn't very clear in my question. The original Toyota data plate that's located under the bonnet is stamped 1963 but has the frame number 2-FJ40-15276 also stamped on the plate, I wonder if Toyota used left over parts from earlier years to produce trucks of later years, actually I think I answered my own question because I also have on this truck an intake manifold stamped FJ25.

The truck is manufactured in 1962 but sold in 1963. And yes, lots of carry-over parts were used. If you want to know more, visit the FJ25 forum. The early 40's are also welcome there.
