35"+ Tire Roll-call... (200's only) (2 Viewers)

One of my hesitations in going to larger and larger tires has been towing performance and stability. Especially when towing or exceeding the upper end of factory capacity. Can share that she still tows with confidence. Re-gearing with 4.3s correcting to practically stock gearing, bigger Tundra brakes to correct leverage and increase heat capacity, with minimal lift and offsets to keep as much factory geometry as possible.

My trailer is lifted 2" and use to drawf the LX. At least in presence. With 35s, not so much. The 33s did tow with a tad more stability, but I think that was as much just having less sidewall. I inflate the 35s about 8PSI more for towing which gets me back some stability. I would say the 20" wheels, especially in larger and larger tire diameters, is pretty key to maintaining stable towing performance.

Now @MTKID has me wondering if she can tow well with 37s?

Only one way to find out. And you could still keep those wheels and tires for the super long road trips where 37’s would just be getting worn out on the Hwy 😉

I have 37/12.50/18s on mine.

Yea ... I'm going to need some more details on this bro!
Well here it is.. 37 inch TOYO AT 3s. I will post step by step on the how too later. Bumpers are back ordered, but will be here in about a month.

So far- diff drop, sway bar relocate, 2.5 old man emu, 2 inch leveling kit On front, modified front body mounts, modify OME upper control arms, trim plastic out of wheel well, 30mm off set wheels, and a few other things.

No fender trimming. They do not rub. No additional spacers

Way to go. Definitely will need more details. Interested in what you had to do with the upper OME arms?

I just don’t get how they don’t rub when fully flexed. Rear especially. 35s run plenty

Had it out for the first time this weekend, had no run issues. Seems to be plenty of space in the rear with the wheels I have, and the OME Heavy suspension.

No your use of pro comp tires. Embarrassing

Oh! I never knew that’s what you didn’t like.

I asked about the 42” MTR again today at my favorite tire shop and they said it doesn’t show any different status than a few months ago. Still a current part #. Still unavailable. That’s the only other tire I would have done at this time.

What’s your preference?

Why not the 42" nittos?

Why not the 42" nittos?
2 reasons - I had hoped to run my 17” beadlocks, although I know they’re a little narrow for a 42 x 14.5” tire, and the MTR is almost as light as the pro-comp 40” and gets a good reputation for on-road manors from other local guys running them (although I know they have a reputation for weaker sidewalls).

Dang, it must have been the heavy springs not having you bottoming out on your bumpstops then. Or you weren’t completely flexed in the rear. A full week in Moab had my rear fender wells looking like this with 35’s.
