I am in the process of installing power steering on my 40. I have a newer 2F that has mounting holes for the power steering pump on the driver's side and holes for an alternator bracket on the passenger side. I have an FJ60 power steering bracket and pump with attached reservoir. I have a two groove harmonic balancer and two groove water pump pulley. I also have what I think is the correct alternator bracket, but things aren't lining up properly. The bracket has a two sets of holes that the alternator could fit into. One set places it slightly back and the belt would line up with the inside set of grooves. This would have the belt loop around the alternator, inside harmonic balancer groove and inside water pump pulley groove. The power steering belt would loop around the outside water pump pulley groove and outside harmonic balancer groove.
The other set of holes moves it forward slightly and lines it up with the outside set of pulleys.
Some factors to consider...
My power steering pump pulley has a deep V groove.
My alternator pulley is has a flat bottom groove.
My water pump pulley has an inside flat bottom groove and outside deep V groove.
My harmonic balancer has an inside wide V groove and an outside deep V groove.
Do the pulleys being used by a common belt need to be the same shape?
Pics...
Alternator lined up in what I call the inside position. This would require a spacer between the alternator and bracket. Here the belt lines up with the inside set of grooves, but the belt hits part of the water pump housing.
Here it is lined up in the outside position.
Here's a view looking from the other side at the water pump pulley and harmonic balancer.
So...what do I have wrong? Wrong alternator bracket, wrong pulleys or something else?
