I have revised this to discuss all clusters series to help with Tach identification. Later versions have ABS and/or Diff lock lights and other idiot lights on dash but main elements all work. The instrument clusters (aka combination meters) are solid state boards that are difficult to add or subtract gauges, lights etc. So you need to find what you need straight off. MPH versions are shown ONLY in the base versions (aka "Wide Type"). The majority of us want a tach so those are shown first.

6 cylinder diesel clusters (1hz/hdt/hd-ft/hdfte) compatible units
2010-2016 two plug versions.
with a single fuel tank: 83800-60V90 (or 60V91 or 60V92)
with twin tanks: 83800-60W00 (or 60W01* or 60W02)
2016 and later three plug:
with a single fuel tank: 83800-6BF40 (or 6BF41 or 6BF42)
with twin tanks: 83800-6BF50 (or 6BF51 or 6BF52)

*(60W01 has light for ABS system)

VDJ clusters (many variations with tach)
2010-2016 two plug versions.
with a single fuel tank: 83800-60T60 AND 60T80 (or 60T61/81 or 60T62/82)
with twin tanks: 83800-60T50* AND 60T70 (or 60T51/71 or 60T52/72)
2016 and later three plug:
with a single fuel tank: 83800-6BT20, and 83800-6BD60 (or 6BD51 or 6BD52)
with twin tanks: 83800 6BD50 (or 6BD51 or 6BD52)

*(the 60T50 has a light for fuel filter and a light for oil level)

Gas GRJ:
2010-2016 two plug
83800-60V70-2 (unconfirmed)
83800-60V80-2 (unconfirmed)
2016 and later three plug:
with a single fuel tank: 83800-6BD70 (or 6BD71 or 6BD72)
with twin tanks: 83800-6BD80 (or 60D81 or 60D82)

If you have a single tank and want a tachometer you need a 83800-60V90/91 pod.

If you need twin tanks and tachometer then a 83800-60W00/01
Resized_20231021_092640.JPEG

basic versions are most of V series and U series.

last one is V42 BTW.

Obviously I will not focus on the basic versions. Others can add to thread to update.

I will add in information on the VDJ stuff as I can find it.

There are two late model "three plug" with the third blue plug threads already in play and are linked below.

hope that helps all in their search

Jed-
75 series are EASY. You can just buy the separate parts and put the thing together (find bottombracket's thread).

This is 2011 grj options. U series I have found have no tachs. Wide Type is also without tachs (so V10 and V20 are out). V70 *might* be correct w single tank and V80 *might* be correct with twin tank. No photos show up on web thus ordering is a crap shoot. I do not understand why post 2010 they omitted tachs from the description. I know sender on HZJ trucks is only cold spec so don't look at gulf country trucks.

For more information, this is 2011 hzj78 series general country clusters:

Above there are photos of U90, V00, V4(2), V90, W0(1). I had a V50 from donor truck I sold. I have no clue what the V60 or the S African X10/X20 look like.

And critically, I have a 60T70 (VDJ, twin tank) and the tach does not work with HDT and the sensor wires are in a different location on the plug. There is also a fuel filter change light and oil level float light that are on almost all the time. I know about 60% of the circuits in the cluster thus far. I have also tried a later 3 plug version in a 2 plug harness and the turn signal blows the fuse if you try right or left.

Gas Three pin version, twin tank

has a 6BD70 image with tach. Therefore 6BD71 and 6BD72's will have tachs.
GRJ series trucks single tank are 70/71/72

VDJ clusters T80, T60, T50 (see file names), all pulled from ebay.au. These are all 2 plug versions. So the 60 looks like the 80, and the 50 looks like the 70.

I would kill for that twin tank with tach in my 1hz 75 troop carrier. Is this even possible? Or are you only addressing the 76 and later series?
Your Troopy has the fuel gauge at a separate location but you can add a cluster with a tach in it although I am not sure how hard this would be , I have clusters available and even plugs form wiring harneses

If anyone wants /need one of these newer clusters I have one here that I would like to move to a new owner

@Tennessee Jed I built a 79 series twin tank/tachometer cluster new from parts.

If you have a 75, I don’t think this will work for you. You should just get a cluster from Joe.

I do have a spare 75 cluster here, but only single tank I believe

Thanks Bracket - I was looking at spares from Australia and you can get 75 cluster meters there with a tach for about $400. The 78/79 clusters are twice that or more.

So, not having a tach now, how do I add a tach once I get the meter? Where does the cable attach? I haven't read your thread yet but I will now.

Edit - wow - that's beautiful work on your gauges. I see now that a lot of my assumptions were wrong re: 75's. Having never had mine apart I have no real idea but apparently they're Fred Flintstone simple.

This is the (apparently) commonly available 75 series spare cluster from AU. Looks like it ticks all the boxes for me, and if you have the sub tank gauge pod on your dash you only need one tank gauge, although the twin gauges would be SO choice.

Your cluster has 2 plugs attached to it and the LX cluster has 3 of them so you will need to dig in to your wiring harness

Thanks to Galen (bottombracket) I have confirmed the 1hz, twin tank, with tachometer first version for 2016 and later three plug (with the Blue plug)

I have strong suspicions that the 83800-6BF40 or 6BF41 is the 1hz, SINGLE tank, tach version.

There are later versions with traction control lights but I am unsure the number at this point. These 6BF4x and 6BF5x are the most basic tach versions available if you can find them.

Thanks for your help with this today Rick.....hopefully I can track down a couple :)

I will add what I know.

The VDJ/GR clusters will not work in a 1Hx Cruiser. Well tach won’t work but most of the rest can be made to work. Completely different signal for tach, we even tried changing the signal with no luck.

If you got or want double tanks the one posted above will work fine. I can confirm you want the 60V90/91 for single tank full cluster, here is a pic from a 76.

I am curious about a 6BE20, I don’t see any info about the BEs here but there is a bunch of them. There is also a bunch of BFs.

There is also a “Ghana spec” double tank cluster with tach, I been waiting on two of these since March.

One thing is for sure, there is a few dozen clusters Toyota made. Very difficult to get any of them new. We have had very little luck finding clusters new. Japan didn’t get 70’s after 2004 so dead end trying to find any in Japan, new or used.

Cheers
