You might take the horn button off and see if anything is moving. Remove the two plastic wings at 9 and 3 oclock on back and I think they are Torx head screws. If you have airbag look to service manual first!

At least a 1PZ is post 1989 engine. Toss a grenade in all those engines prior to 1990. And, as I advised someone a few years ago in New York the PZ is cheap and later when you are ready a 6 cylinder hz/hd/etc is a drop in.

hd-t require pulling pump that does not effect the timing gears. There is no way on earth to remove the cooler and cover without the pump being removed. this is typically what a bad cooler looks like.

Poor coolant maintenance over decades can cause internal corrosion to build up especially in the oil cooler (behind injection pump). An Oxalic acid (wood bleach) flush followed by neutralization with Baking soda helps as well as physical removal...
