I can't find any torque capacity specs on Toyota 5 speeds. So my question is; "what is the most bullet proof Toyota 5 speed transmission to put in a 60"?

The one that will fit.
Typically transmission strength is matched to the engine it was originally designed for.

The Tundra's TMS is a heck of a lot beefier than the Tacoma's.... as an example.

The FZJ80's transmission is beefier than the FJ62's. Etc.

I am putting in a 1HZ-T and was wondering what would bolt up to it. Like a H55F or H151F or R151F ect...

H55 is the way to go. They use it in the Toyota Busses.

Would anyone use a R151F behind a warmed up turbo diesel? Or am I looking for trouble :worms:?

We had plenty of HZJ105 with 1HZ ( NA ) and R151 trannys .. few of those got aftermaket turbos ( low boost setups like 10 PSI top ) and till no problem like 10 or 15 years later ..

Being said that, there is no rival for the mighty H55F .. you might complain about the OD 5th gear .. but you would not have much more ( longer 5th gear ) in any other compatible Toyota tranny .. ( H150 / H151 / R151 )

if the H55F fits.. that would be the end of the discussion for manual transmissions.

The H55f fits. Everything else is much more work to fit.

H55f + 1HZ + 60 series = easy.

That's just math.

Have not off roaded my bj60 but it has 480,000 km on the H55F transmission and I think, the original clutch.

Respectfully Rusty,
Letting a clutch go that long is asking for a bag full of hurt on judgement day. (Clutch judgement day that is).

Drop the tranny and swap out all those old clutch parts ASAP.

Its still good. I baby the tranny and engine. Its been a good truck but what I really need is another 60. The inner frame rails are eaten though. Wheel well on one side is eaten though. Still drive it. The fuel economy is crappy even though the engine idles and runs smoothly and can do 75 mph max on the highway. I think the IP is leaking internally.
