I have both my auto transmission hardline assemblies, if you need them. You can have them.

@Mag71k5 crazy timing, and thank you! However, I now know they're M14x1.5 - Today I went to 3 auto parts stores in a row, until I ended up in the back-of-house racking of an o'reilly going through random bins of fittings marked "NO REFUND", and found three of the fitting I needed. I asked how much and the store associate said, "I think we'll Merry Christmas those for you". Nice.

So I picked up some 3/8" NiCopp line from them and started dreaming up some hard lines. I drilled and tapped a hole on the trans bell housing to use an OE line bracket, still using adhesive lined heat shrink out here. Depending on trans temps, the heat shrink might be re-activated, but we'll see.

Planning to re-use the small steel hard line section from the 1FZ that routes along the engine, up to the rubber lines at the front. The FTE doesn't have mounting provisions for the brackets in the same location, so I'll have to come up with some solid places to mount it using the OE brackets.

I had ordered an OE FTE turbo dump gasket and OE nuts and used those instead of the gasket provided by PPD to mount the turbo dump. As expected, the Toyota gasket looked to be 10x better quality.

  • Original 8mm feed line converted to the return line (fuel tank side) - need to figure out what in world metric threading was used on those flare fittings there, and was thinking get an AN fitting to mate with the flare with an 8mm/5/16" hose barb on the other side.
no need to worry about the threading. cut off the tube and use a flaring tool to make a bead on tube. the GM style fuel fitting flare tooling works the best but the 1st stage of a double flare or a bubble flare also works fine. it's just a return line with no pressure on it.

i reused the 1fz hard lines. They are alot different then the 1hd lines. I could get the front factory bracket to work with a little bending but that's it. Had to custom make a bracket at the rear of the engine that hangs off one of the oil pan bolts. lines are very close to the starter, not sure if you could replace the starter without unbolting all the hard lines or not. The 1hd starter is way bigger then the 1fz.

@TheBussman this is a good trick and is how I put a barb on the end of the trans cooling lines and on both ends of the 1/2” fuel supply line. I hadn’t tried this on the steel lines but I will today before making the trip to summit for an AN adapter.

I managed to follow the original 1FZ routing, by removing a small section in the rubber isolation in each bracket, then using adhesive lined heat shrink as a hedge against abrasion with the bracket. I didn’t get any photos of it installed, but here’s how I modified the fuel line brackets

The 1HD starter has got to be double the size of the 1FZ starter for sure, might be a squirrelly job the replace later.

Hey mate did you sort out your wiring.

Howdy - thanks for reaching out! For now, I believe so, or at least it’s in process. Have been working with Thrashlux Jonathan who another member who did the same swap had worked with.

Updates here - the fuel system is now sorted with some diesel in the tank and the fuel filters primed.

I ended up using one AN fitting with a crush sleeve on the 8mm return line adapted to a hose barb.

This FTE setup came with the traditional main filter and also a pre-filter. Doing a little research, it seems these are spec’d only for harsh environments. I thought it was a nice extra factor of safety, so I got new filters for both and used it.

Getting closer!!

Light night in the garage with a number of small projects, as I’m leaving for a bit of work travel in the am.

Pulled the 1FZ gas pedal assembly and throttle cable. If anyone is on the market for a new throttle cable, I put this one on last summer and it made a huge improvement in pedal feel vs the 27 year old, 190k mile throttle cable. I’d be happy to sell this one. I’ll be posting a bunch of 1FZ part up at the end of all this in the classifieds. I opened up the new pedal assembly to start mocking it up.

While under the dash I also replaced the flexible coupling/rag joint for the steering column and the firewall seal. Partsouq must love me for the steady stream of orders I’ve been running through them.

Also, finally pulled the cruise stalk to get shipped out to Lutz Auto.

Attached the 80 series chassis-to-A750F shifter adapter, from the Lutz Auto conversion kit - fairly straight forward with a right angle drill adapter.

What does he do to the cruise stalk?
I'm not entirely sure, it sounds like he is just soldering in a resistor so it can communicate with the FTE ECU.
I would do this myself, but haven't done the research on what needs to be done, and Bryan gave a very fair price to just do it for me, so a bird in the hand is two in the bush.

I've been chatting with Dave @ Japan4x4 who has been digging around for a vacuum reservoir that is at least Toyota OE, will hold a vacuum and bolt to something in the engine bay. He is unable to get HDJ80 and HDJ79 vacuum reservoirs for me at the moment. He recommended this part, which he can get which I'm going to go forward with.

Ive got mine going direct from the vacuum pump, gives me plenty of braking power, I feel like I actually have more pedal than I did before.

Only problem if I stall the engine it'll probably get a very stiff pedal quickly.

I might look into this for mine. Good job finding a solution.

I'm running a used one that looks just like it. not sure what toyota diesel it came from, working good for me. Just had to put a cupple rivnuts in. really you could get by without it I'm sure but there could be some weird situation where your going down hill really fast and the engine stalls and you want to push the pedal multiple times, you want to make sure you can stop.

Dave will get you sorted! Interesting you feel you have better brakes than before given the FTE is a little heavier than the 1FZ. But maybe a wash for you on weight as I'd guess the H152 is lighter than the auto. The autos are HEAVY.

That makes me wonder if the vacuum pump on the FTE creates more vacuum than the 1FZ.

I had this thought too, but I figured if I can get my greasy paws on one, may as well get it ordered and installed.

FTE Pedal is in, and I got lost installing some sound deadening thanks to the instant gratification of amazon same day delivery. What a time to be alive.

I believe my supervisor has been snoozing.

Small detail, today the engine found it's new home.

I'm going to call this the halfway point.

Great job man, how difficult was it for you to get the fte in? It was a bastard for me man lol.
