Here is the RTT on my wife’s Lexus RX 450h that we are taking on this summers Colorado trip. It’s the size of her car but eventually it will find a permanent home on top of the Hundy.

First time packing up the Smittybilt 2Gen XL RTT. It took me 37 min. That includes removing the annex too. I can do better. Here is a time lapse:

Jackery and ARB Zero 101qt update:

im sadly disappointed that the Jackery can only handle 42 watts of charging while the ARB Zero pulls 62 watts (~5A @12VDC). This means that the Jackery can only handle the ARB if at idle. I suppose that is where ARB reports their 0.8A current draw which is a bogus claim (misleading at best) when you think about it.

Ok so finally got the underside of the cab etched with phosphoric acid and zinc phosphate rust inhibitor. Two layers of SprayMax 2K Epoxy primer sprayed on.

Pro tip: have the top coat ready to spray after laying down primer. The very corrugated underside took two days of overhead work to sand down in preparation for the top coat. I should have waited until the top coat arrived via Amazon truck before putting epoxy primer on. That way you don’t have to sand the primer.

Fellow Austin area Cruiser Head here (Lakeway). This is the craziest s*** I've seen on the internet since 1992 and I LOVE IT! I'm in the middle of a HUGE secret project on my rig, but it pales in comparison. Can not wait to see the finished product! Stay at it!

Thx for that. I’d love to host the Austin Area Cruisers crew over for a bbq after the new year. We live in Leander near Crystal Falls and Ronald Reagan.

Count me in for that! I can invite several other Austin Cruiser Heads as well. Would love to see your project first hand.

Thank you for the invite @AustinJoe but had the COVID 😢 I’ll try to make the Feb 5 meet.

Definitely following your progress. Have a 99 with 115k my brother and I sourced a few years ago. PO was 80+ but unfortunately lived in the Philly market. Have a donor out of the south compliments of another good MUD friend. Not planning the level of detail you’ve gone through, but a frame swap never the less. Thanks you for the detailed write up. Jimmy

The frame swap isn’t that big of a deal however all the hardware had to be replaced on mine. It was just too rusted. I wouldn’t trust some of those rusted bolt heads. It’s amazing how time consuming it is to order this from Toyota as you assemble everything. I also decided to replace a lot of accessories which all needs to be sourced. That perhaps wasn’t needed but since I had no experience with this car I didn’t want to get stuck overlanding with breakdowns and off-the-grid repairs.
