So… Two full days and I can’t tell you how bad my shoulders ache right now. A little more than half done with the paint restoration. Taking tomorrow off. Amazing results though. Here’s a before and after.

Throttle stuck almost wide-open today on my way to get more sandpaper. Luckily was on a 50 mph road with no stop sign in sight. Couple sharp jabs on the gas pedal and it freed it but dang… I’ll have to figure out where that was binding. 😳. Maybe just go through and lube all the throttle linkage.

Finished buffing out the paint today. I think it’s overtaken suspension bushings for the worst job yet. I got sloppy toward the end but I couldn’t face sanding, buffing, or waxing one more second. Pleased with the results though.

Shocks arrived from Marks Offroad. I can’t believe the difference in ride quality and handling. That being said, anything would have made a huge difference. I’d never heard of Ironman shocks but they were reasonable and I’m willing to give them a shot. Recommended by @65swb45. I’m seeing a light at the end of the tunnel.... The first tunnel that is.

Got my matching steering stabilizer installed today. Looks good and definitely feels tighter on the bumps, especially around corners.

Has anyone used the adapter kits to put the aftermarket stabilizers on their 40s? I had one from CCOT and then the Iron Man stabilizer actually came with the same thing. It’s a tapered pin that goes in the bracket. I couldn’t get either one to seat all the way. Even with my impact gun on it. I didn’t want to break anything. Does it need to seat all the way? I’ll post a photo.

Also just messing around… Borrowed a timing light from a friend. I didn’t disconnect any vacuum lines on the distributor.. Just hooked up the light and pulled the trigger. Engine doesn’t seem to run too bad but should I try to get the BB closer to the pointer line? I loosened the clamp on the distributor but couldn’t get it to budge either way so just tighten it back before I screwed something up. Here is a video of the timing mark.

 
That might actually be a good spot. I've searched and some mention running ~10 degrees advanced? It would put the BB down below where it is now, maybe a little further.

The way to do it is with timing light + vacuum gauge

Cool. I was just messing around. Looks like I’m in the ballpark though!

Good luck with that! I let a friend of mine who owned a tire store talk me into one of those computerized alignments on my FJ45. Fancy flashing lights on mounted paddles like your pic.
1. Since caster and camber cannot be adjusted without disassembling things, all they can really offer on a basic checkup is toe-in.
2. When the tech finished his first run, he walked up to the truck with a couple of wrenches and started loosening the clamps on my relay rod. I had to tell him the OTHER rod was the one that would change toe-in.
3. When I got my truck back and drove to the shop I could tell it was worse than when I started. Got out my tape measure and reset it myself.

Thankfully I was only out $20 for that lesson.
 
Toe can easily be checked/set using two push pins and a tape measure.
