The long wait for studs is because you've got the small pattern knuckles? The nuts themselves were hard to find IIRC. I only have large pattern knuckles in my junk, and studs for those are all kinds of easy to source (and installed with a torx socket--super easy).

Looks good so far! And you are absolutely right about the blast cabinet: they are a godsend (but only if you've got the air compressor to run one), but even then, you want as much grease and grime off as possible. Abrasives take paint off, and they can deal with rust--but grease is a pain.

Wow, your off to a great start. I look forward to doing this one day myself, once i get a decent shop/shed. What colour are you going to paint her?

Thanks for lots of pics too! :D

Subscribed. This is like watching one of those old filmstrips, where the caterpillar turns into a butterfly! (and yes, that sounds gay as hell to me, too...) :)

Nice work Them..........

Your 40 is looking great!

That chassis looks great man, keep up the good work! Getting the trunion preload is a PITA when you're replacing everything, it's easier when you just clean and reuse if it makes you feel any better for next time ;) Just wanted to be sure you hit those calipers with some paint, I forgot to do that when I replaced mine and they flash rust in no time once they are out in the elements :frown:

Thanks for sharing,,,,you make it look so easy,,,, all eyes on you, subscribed;)

Looks great. How did you get everything so clean? You can't sandblast some of those parts.

For the painted parts - you sandblasted...then is that a powder coat, paint from a can, paint gun, or what?

Just curious about the process you used to make those old parts look so new. I'm doing similar work myself.

Everything that could be blasted has been blasted and painted. The paint I used is called POR-15. It cures to a rock hard finish. I also used a satin chasis coat on the frame and axle housings. All paint was applied with a spray gun. Any part that cannot be blasted or painted has been replaced including every nut and bolt.
