I've never been there and we have plans to go there one day. Unfortunately not this year, too busy this weekend.

Would have been nice to meet you there. Maybe next year?

Have fun!

Even unrestored it's the prettiest rig there!

Paul. It was a very cool event! Look to have around 300 Toyotas there! No LV's though!

funky ashtray (stock?)

Looks to be stock. I have never seen that ash tray on the dash. Thats the same one that is on the back of the front bench seat on FJ45 LV's.
You have the same one on the back of your front bench seat.
Congrats on your new Cruiser.

Wow, that is a great find and I've enjoyed looking at all of the pics. Looks like you've got more than a few FJ35 cross over parts. The white speedo, glass, and yes that ashtray on the dash is from the 35 also and in the same position. Here's the only interior pic I've been able to find of a LHD FJ35 which was posted many years ago. Other members on Mud said that originally there was another interior pic of the same vehicle that accompanied it but I've never seen it. I look forward to following this build.

That is a cool pic, thanks. On early brochures I saw earlier LV's (and 35's?) that have a different rear fender.

Not much work done yet. First thing is getting it registered. After that we can kind of do what we want as long as we keep the chassis and body mostly original.

We removed the engine and will probably mount an early 70's F engine we have (for now). We started with some body work. We'll try to make a new rear sill so we have something to bolt the hinges of the lower hatch to. Probably the front axle is shot, cm's of play on the ongoing shaft. We have spare axles too.

We have to think what to do after that. We're kind of purists so we prefer to keep it original. But that means lots of work on the engine, drive train, brakes. Other ideas are putting 70 series axles on it, and maybe a newer engine 2F or 1FZ if we can find one? On LPG maybe? Diesel? Decisions for later...

First things first, we first have our 62 FJ40 to finish.

The fear fender in the brochure is just an artist concept painting. Every actual photo of a LV I've seen is the same as yours. I'm pretty sure the rear fender on the brochure never actually existed.

No it is real. Here you find the pics of the 1961 of bdlatin. (Can't isolate the pics on my phone, might be useful to save these for later reference.)

Wow the rear side of that LV is like nothing I've ever seen.

This 1963 owners manual recently found me. Reckon I'm in The Netherlands. No toyotas here till the late 60's. and some guy puts this for sale here. And he didn't have a clue how he got it, must have been in one of my cruisers he said.
It is in excellent condition.
Nice addition for the glove box.

We have a working F engine in it. With a 4 speed gearbox. Axles and brakes are done. Bodywork is next. Doors are done, We’re working on the rear sill right now. All to get it roadworthy first. The complete restoration follows later.

Split case mate or an early one?

Question. The license plate light gets its power through a spring loaded contact under the center of the tailgate. Could anyone make a picture of how that looks like? On the lower side? The contact in the tailgate is still there , but that part of the sill including the lower contact part was MIA.

Is this what your looking for?
On the bottom of the sill there is a access hole to put the lower contact in. Its then covered up by a plate with two screws, the wire runs threw the plate with a grommet. The plate is about 4.5"x1.5".
