I’m in the process of moving to Kenya from Botswana. Have not secured a place to live yet, but found the perfect cruiser. I had a ‘77 BJ40 in Botswana, but had to sell it as it is not possible to import cars older than 8 yrs old into Kenya.

So, here is the 45v. Honestly, I had to learn about it as I was not familiar with the model. Then, I fell in love. It was first registered into Kenya in 1970 with date of manufacture also stated as 1970. The last photo was taken just a few months ago. Unfortunately, the P.O. repainted it to an ugly green, but he also rebuilt the original f engine, that now runs really smoothly.

It will be a weekend safari car in Kenya, so not looking for concourse look. Nevertheless, will repaint it and do some cosmetic work, upgrade to electronic ignition (pertronix) and consider power steering, otherwise will keep it original. Finding parts in Kenya is not easy as there is only one other known 45v in the country. I’ve seen one in SA and heard about one in Zimbabwe.

I have found door rubbers, vent window seals, rear light covers and gaskets, turn signals and some other small things. Getting them over from the States requires a lot of coordination, but that’s part of the fun! I’m still in need of windshield wiper arms.

...and yes, I know the bezel is upside down!

Parts are coming together and ready to start the project. Fortunately there is no rust to deal with. Door rubber seals, vent window rubbers, taillight gaskets and lenses are in. Still haven’t decided on the color though.

I’m also looking at sound deadening. Anyone has good experience with Second Skin CLD panels?

Man that’s nice. I would suggest whatever the original color was. Something that rust free would be with a lot of money here in the US

The original color was that dark green from my first post. I don't think it was ever repainted judging from the fire wall and the original registration from 1970.

Yeah I reckon back in the seventies a fella at the Kenyan Transport Dept. stuck his tongue out and arrived at 1970 ;)

Guys, any suggestions for windshield wiper arms? Apparently the post ‘69 model available on various cruiser part sites will not fit. Anyone modifient shorter arms like early VW bugs? Other suggestions?

I bought some 67 45 pickup arms that look same from a guy in Venezuela that I contact via Instagram. He posts as Oldpartscruisers

Yes, I think it will. I have not installed it yet but plan to use this on all my windows. I bent the sample int all the corners and it took the bends without puckering.

I'm also looking for rubber seal for the inside edge under the rear hatch and found this from Steele (part number 70-3592-99). Any experience with it or other profile that might be better?
