Guess what now?
Yeah well first thing is trying to get the engine running I guess. But have to take care we first finish the 40. Not a good idea to have two cruisers in parts.

I wasn't there when the 45 arrived. My brother wondered how you fixed the straps. He had to get under the car to get them loose. Did daniel get under it or whas it Ian?:)

Thanks again guys! Really happy!!!

I'm 6'4" and I was under that car

@catskinner was crucial in the placement of the 2.5t straps to ensure that 45V made it safe, but also intact.

Haha that worked out very well! I think when the box would have been upside down it would still have been in place! Better safe then sorry!

Will have some engine work to do. Drained the oil this morning. First thing I got was about 15 ltr of water:

Followed by a sludgy substance:

Pulled the valve cover:

Looks like someone found this on the bottom of the ocean. Hope we can get this all loose without breaking things.
Pulled the spark plugs.

The cilinders had a bit of water and dirt. Left it like this, Maybe the water evapourates.

Nasty stuff. You've got some work ahead of you. Hopefully the bottom end and the rest of the power train does'nt look like that!! Was that actually salt water that came out of the oil pan??

No salt water. It smelled a bit like diesel. Was surprised how clean it was. I think that smell came from the oil. Too much water for condens I think, maybe a head gasket problem? But it wasn't cooling liquid either. Saw no water under the rad cap.

Yes, we're very happy with the 45! As cult said: it is amazing how original it is. The frame is excellent. There is even still paint on it. The body is not that good. Lots of rust repair to do. Floors, doors, rear sill and the roof. Luckily there is enough inspiration for that work here on this 45 forum.

The shift stick is moving again. The drive line must have been under tension. The clutch is stuck and so is the engine. After we drained the engine oil we put the valve cover back on. Through the crankcase ventilation hose we filled the engine with old but clean hydraulic oil we had. We stopped when it came out of the dip stick tube. We also drained the gearbox and also there was a lot of water. We'll fill this with hydraulic oil too. Probably this car has been under water for some time. The door cards look like they've been quite wet and the bottom of the front doors are filled with clay. Guess we'll never know what happened.

First thing to do is getting rid of the water, fill everything with oil so the rust inside the driveline won't get worse then it already is, and the remaining water will sink to the bottom. Then invite the RDW, that is the Dutch registration instance. They will identify the car to be sure it can be registered once it's ready.

And after that we'll probably park it until the 62 fj40 is ready. Which won't be finished this year (and we have no deadline).

Then, some time in the future, we'll start with this 45V. I think we will do it like the 62 FJ40. First get it on the road, drive it for a little while and then restore it. An engine rebuilt will be the first thing to do, after that the rest of the drive line and the brakes.

But that will be way ahead in time. It's nice to have a next project in line. That'll put a little pressure on the current restoration ;). Looking forward to start with this one.

"they show the car is quite rusty"

You people in places without road salt are SO annoying... there is NO rust on that truck... I hate you, I hate you all.

Yeah Well it has some tiny spots, just didn't post the pics. The roof is loose almost all around at the gutters, and cult fixed the straps through the floor.

The same Australian dirt it left home with still stuck to the windshield at a club meeting in the Netherlands.

True pride.

Yeah pretty cool. But it had some short but heavy rain after that so most is gone now
