I believe I have all the parts I need minus some gaskets and bolts and the intake piece to fit right on the front of the unit. I had the SC rebuilt by Magnacharger.com. I am contemplating getting a thermal coating to reduce heat, and also using 8 upgraded injectors instead of the extra 9th injector that came with the unit. If I do that I don't think the stock TRD ECU will work, next step is to research the Unichip and other aftermarket ECU's.

For those of you that have installed the TRD supercharger, what would you do over different rather than just slapping it on as is? I've seen comments about IK22 plugs and aftermarket ECU's.

From a tuning perspective, I will have aftermarket headers (Doug Thorley's) soon and plan to do a complete 3" exhaust with high flow extra heat resistant cats (not sure which, any suggestions?). I've also read about getting the headers coated for heat reduction as well.

Hello Nate:
Nice meeting you and your family a couple of weeks ago. I stayed with the 9th injector and stock spark plugs and TRD ecu I also have the DT headers on and the cruiser feels about 500 lbs lighter. When I catch up with other projects, like getting Shane's leather installed this coming week, adding locks to the drawers, hella horns, I will carve out some time to have ss exhaust fabricated from the headers back to a new muffler (magna flow?) and tailpipe. Let me know what you find out about the spark plugs, I assume you are thinking of a cooler set?

Supercharger installation started today thanks to Ryan Bascom of On the Road Again Mobile Mechanic.

I was waiting for the DT Headers but they are on backorder and I'm done waiting. So on goes the SC.

Ryan has a bunch of pictures on his facebook page of the process:

Here's a couple teasers, for the rest go to his page linked above.

Supercharger installed, nice little jolt on the accelerator now.

Also got the AHC globes replaced, land cruiser torsion bars and springs installed.

Do they still make these things? Are they compatible with 03?

You can find them on EBAY/Craigslist often for a hefty price-tag, however they are no longer manufactured. I believe they stopped making them due to Tundras bending rods due to the added stresses.

As far as the '03+ is concerned, I seem to recall something about it being very bad for VVTi engines (not sure what year that started in) but if the '03 isn't VVTi then I can't imagine there will be a problem (other than possible rod bend unless you beef them up).

I started a thread about them, do a search for supercharger and read up before going down that route. Lots of used superchargers on ebay don't have all the parts with them or need to be rebuilt.

Tundras bent rods in the US based 2UZ because they were cast, not forged.

VVt-i was added in 2006 to LC's.

I think I melted or clogged my catalytic converters yesterday. Suddenly lost 80% of my power trying to pass someone on the highway and limped into a parking lot to get AAA to come fetch me. Bummer!

Serpentine belt still there?

Yep, no issues with that or any leaking fluids. Idles fine, just when giving it some gas or hitting a hill it bogs down mightily.

Nate:
Any diagnosis yet?

Not yet, hopefully Ryan can check it out tomorrow. I think my Doug Thorley headers are done since Jardine charged my card the other day so hopefully headers, hi flow cats and stainless exhaust is in my near future.

Was an accelerator code that once removed seemed to fix the issue. I have a code scanner that I'm going to keep in my truck incase it happens again. Doesn't seem to be the catalytic converters, although I know they are prone to melt on the Tundra's that are supercharged I'm tempted to delete them but not sure how to resolve the rear o2 sensor issues if I go forward with that.

Re: the cats...you just need bigger ones. Catalytics are sized by engine output. Since you've increased engine output (hp) about 50% the stock ones will be overloaded when you are on the go pedal. If you want to stay legal replace the stock size with ones from a motor with ~same peak horsepower as you now have. E.g. grab a set from a 2007+ Tundra with the 5.7 at a junkyard.

Junk yards won't sell catalytic converters due to some federal law -- at least the ones I spoke to. I may have to see what Cruiser Dan can do for me on 5.7 Toyota cats.

I did get my seats repaired. MUCH cheaper then replacing.

Looks brand new again. Thinking about some covers during the summer to reduce the heat.

What did you use to repair the seat leather? They look great.

I have been thinking about replacing my leather with one of the Metric TLC kits, but haven't had a weekend available to do the install.

I used a local repair shop. He used a compilation of conditioners and some type of leather fill for the cracks then dyed the leather back to the factory color.

It almost looks new. That's great. Do you mind telling what that cost you? I would be interested in doing the same thing. Mine are just a little worse than yours were in the before pictures.
