Directly related to having owned some vehicles that couldn’t pull the skin off of old pudding!

I wonder how many of the original pre-order 25 kits are left. Gotta be less than ten, right?

Wondering the same thing, a little surprised...then again not really surprised that the 25 hasnt sold out. So many people screaming for one and not putting their money down. Especially all those who don’t need CARB cert, which is 80% of mud if not more.

You, my friend, have the patience of a saint!

..........and in desperately need of a turbo! :hillbilly:

Tee hee heee, yeah, I'm slow at elevation for sure. I tend re-gear my rigs based on the elevations where I live and play most of the time. Back in '04, we were living near Chicago so 4.56s with 315s made sense.

After moving to NM in '06 and living at 7,000', it's been a ball sucking adventure ever since. I almost went to 4.88s but the cost for such a small jump was stooopid. Still, I enjoyed the long legs she has on the hwy but as soon as there's a "thought" of a hill, she starts to quiver and drops her speed

I'm looking forward to having additional hp/torque and still keep the long legs for the hwy journeys. My 80 is about as efficient as she gets: AT tires, no wheel spacers, hard shell RTT with a wind fairing, part time Tcase, LT MAF and I have a tiny lead foot. Still, her mpg sucks, hovering around 15 mpg or so:bang: But, I'm ok with that MPG if I can actually pull the hills.

15MPG is probably top 5% on mud! LOL

I'm lucky to get 13 cruising at 65 all the way.

With a brand new motor I managed 16 going from Seattle to Portland cruising around 75. 10K miles later i'm averaging 15 going 80mph if its a full highway tank. Clean internals makes a difference me thinks.

For sure! I use to get 15 if I drive 70-75 on flat roads, I even got 16 regularly with 31 in AT tires and third seats removed. But with 2 inch lift, 35s, big/heavy roof rack, snorkel, front bumper, winch, batteries, fridge, drawer, and all sorts crap in my 80, MPG doesn't go past 13 any longer. Weight and aerodynamic(the lack of) matter even more.:frown:

I got 21 mpg recently, but that was driving from Truckee to Sacramento (6000 ft to sea level over 70 miles). With 33" tires, stock gears, and an ARB, I get 13-13.5 on trips averaging 70-80. New cats made a difference. For me, the turbo should nicely complement my setup with stock gears, keeping the RPM down for freeway, but giving the much needed extra power when in the mountains. While power sucks at 6000 feet, it really sucks (as in first gear) going over the top of the Sonora Pass, which is steep and over 9600 feet, as well as forest service roads in Tahoe which are often over 8000 feet.

Yep before the turbo at 13,000ft even in low range on steep off-road climbs I was like damn is this thing going to make it??

You CA guys complaining about lack of performance at 6000-9000' crack me up. You should feel how hard a truck struggles simply climbing a dirt road over 13,000'

There was a Top Gear episode where the English gents were doing 4x4 driving on super high mountain passes in some country. At the top, they were all out of breath and popped Viagra. Shame we can't do the same for the 80s. Just pop this magic thing into the fuel tank and off we go

Chile, I believe.

My 80 has 4.88 gears and used to have a supercharger with smaller pulley, meth injection, intercooler, header, 3" exhaust. I pretty much am certain this turbo kit as it sits has more go than my setup. That said, I loved the combo with 4.88's. It always had a wierd lag from a dead start so I could never beat an 8 second 0-60. With a little roll it would rip with those gears and boost, very fun, Kinda humming at or just over 3,000 rpm on the expressway but the 1fz aint skeered. I think the turbo 4.88 combo would be a riot.

Someday mine will be done. Funny thing is part of the reason I started my own turbo project was to be done rather than wait for the Wits End kit. Probly not happenin.:bang:

exactly, even with my 4.88's I've wondered a couple times what would happen if I simply ran out of go, if it stalled and I started rolling backward that would bring the suck fast. I started a final accent a couple years ago redlined in 1st but by then end of the climb 200 yards later I was lugging along at about 1100 RPM.

Yup! I had the cruiser up to 15k loaded...needed to have the 4.88's with 33's just to get around. Wish I had money for this turbo and the necessary repairs to get the engine in order. At 9k in Crested Butte its a dog with 315's. Spend way too much time in 1st and 2nd gear.

Hell, I’m lucky to get 11 with my 3FE on 33s.

Assuming a new test mule hasn't been acquired yet, these two showed up recently (and locally):

'95 w/ 150k for $12k. Built and looks clean on the outside, other than some clear coat fade on the roof.

'97 LX450 stock, 220k for $5k. Has a minor dent in the rear driver's quarter panel and front bumper.

That LX is even ‘great on gas’. PO of mine told me the same sh*t and I was dumb enough to buy it. lol

I don’t want to know. At 9000 feet it is really starting to struggle, and my truck is light compared to most builds (ARB bumper). I know in general you lose 3% per 1000 feet of elevation, but I swear it is greater than that the higher the elevation.

Haha 1fz owners talking about bad performance at 13,000 ft and lesser elevations crack me up. I thought my 3FE was about ready to start rolling backwards this past summer going up something just shy of 13k feet in low and low
